Between April 8 and July 7, the Makun Bridge in Mets Tagher village in Artsakh’s occupied Hadrut region was destroyed in the course of river engineering and road construction, the Caucasus Heritage Watch ( CHW) reports.

The small structure is difficult to see in satellite imagery due to tree cover, but CHW’s sources have confirmed its location.

Built in 1890 of roughly hewn stones, the arched bridge spanned a small tributary of the Ishkhanaget River.

An Armenian construction inscription was once set in the bridge’s façade. “In memory of Ghazar Harutiun Bejaniants,” the incription read.

It fell prior to 2009 (when first published) and was moved to the village museum before the 2020 war. Its current location and condition are unknown.

Aug 26 2021

Armenian Ombudsman Arman Tatoyan reports that  50 or more  Azerbaijani servicemen who have blocked the interstate road leading from Goris to Kapan near the village of Davit Bek, refuse to open the road.

"These actions are criminal, restricting the free movement of people, the entire civilian population, including children, women, and the elderly. We have received alarms confirming all of this from civilians, and we have verified everything.

I warn so very much about this danger and state that the state should act and do so urgently. The presence of Azerbaijani armed servicemen on the roads between Syunik communities of the Republic of Armenia is criminal act, period. It, in and of itself violates people's right to life, to free movement, and to other internationally guaranteed vital rights," Tatoyan wrote on his Facebook page.

In his words, it is obvious from the facts that this is a pre-planned and an openly and hostile act. It is a crime against the civilian population of the Republic of Armenia.

"I am aware that the Russian border guards, Armenian border guards conducted negotiations on the spot to open the road, and through their efforts civilian cars were taken out of the roadblock. According to the verified data, the negotiations will continue in the morning. Thus far they continue the refuse opening the road. Early in the morning, special reports on this incident will be sent to the relevant international bodies," added the Ombudsman.

Armenia opposition party leader: Enemy wants to seize Tigranashen, Armenians need to show resistance

News.am, Armenia

If there is a danger and you declare that Azerbaijan might unleash a large-scale war and add that you have information, you need to start talking about a militia right now. This is what leader of the opposition Yerkir Tsirani Party Zaruhi Postanjyan told reporters today, touching upon acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s statement that “according to unofficial sources, Azerbaijan intends to incite new military clashes in Artsakh and on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border”.

“You don’t prepare the people, but surrender to the Turks and tell them to turn the Republic of Armenia into a Turkish vilayet? This is what we’re witnessing. Therefore, we need to understand this, and the residents of Syunik Province have already understood that it is necessary to liberate Yerevan from the ‘Turks’ in the country. The rebirth of the new Armenia will start from Syunik Province,” she said.

According to Postanjyan, in 2016, the army prevented the enemy’s infiltration into the heart of Artsakh. “In 2018, I toured along the entire length of the eastern border of Artsakh that was violated in 2020, and I became convinced that Armenians would be able to protect the border in case of military operations. This is why special measures were taken to destroy the army and replace the elite with non-professionals. However, even in this case, it was impossible to transfer the territories belonging to Artsakh. Alongside the treason and failed diplomacy, we only lost two regions during the 44-day war in Artsakh. We were removed from the other regions due to the signature of the treacherous leader,” Postanjyan said.

Postanjyan urges citizens to go to Tigranashen and try to understand why Azerbaijan has created tension in Yeraskh. “The enemy wants to seize Tigranashen so that it can deploy mercenaries, not peaceful Azerbaijanis. The enemy wants to deploy mercenaries, who will turn Armenia into a country like Syria. So, I urge all citizens of Armenia to go to Yeraskh and see the threat we are facing. We need to prepare to have a militia and show resistance,” she added.

The new carrier will serve the "strategic vision of Armenia’s fast-growing travel and tourism sector as well as contributes to the country’s economic growth," said the companies in a statement.

Glendale breaks ground on Armenian-American Museum

Fox 11 Los Angeles

It’s the first of its kind in Los Angeles County. A new museum dedicated to the culture and history of Armenia is coming to Glendale.

The Armenian-American Museum and Cultural Center of California broke ground Sunday.

The museum is a world-class cultural and educational center with permanent exhibits on Armenian heritage, culture and history as well as the Armenian-American experience, according to Executive Director Shant Sahakian.

"It’s exciting for us to have a space that will be able to honor our history as Armenian-Americans but also build our future," Sahakian said. "It will be a place where you’ll learn both of Armenian history and culture and also learn about each other."

The museum and cultural center will feature a learning center with classes and courses available to the public, an auditorium to host panel discussions, seminars and musical and dance performances and even a demonstration kitchen.

"The idea is to teach culture through food and for visitors to be able to learn about Armenian food and cooking traditions and also for us to have opportunities for creating fusion dishes for building those cross cultural connections."

Plans to create the museum were discussed years ago; construction begins July 2021. The museum is targeted to open in the summer of 2024.

"The museum was born as a vison when the community came together in 2014 to plan for the Armenian genocide centennial in 2015. There was a historic march held in Los Angeles to honor the 1.5 million who perished in the Armenian Genocide and the museum was the landmark project that was really looking at the next 100 years, the next centennial, and was a project that would help define and build that next generation," Sahakian explained.
