Bloomberg includes Armenia in Fastest-Growing Destinations in Europe Top 10

Bloomberg has presented a top 10 list of the fastest-growing tourist destinations in Europe, which also includes Armenia.

Bloomberg talked to Warren Chang, chief operating officer for bespoke travel outfitter Cox & Kings’ Americas division, who presented the new destinations.

“When you’re talking about these fast-growing destinations in Europe, there’s often a lack of name recognition, compared to more popular countries,” he said.

Chang used the annual tourism growth data of each country while making the top 10.

“Among the destinations Chang expects to surge in 2019 is Armenia; in fact, Cox & Kings is slated to debut a new itinerary pairing the country with Georgia in the next few weeks. Among the outfitters already serving the destination are Abercrombie & Kent, Ker & Downey, and TCS World Travel, who collectively tout historical riches such as Mt. Ararat (where Noah’s Ark is said to have made landfall), the charming capital of Yerevan, and—yes—its most famous cultural descendants, the Kardashians. On trips with Abercrombie & Kent, guests also get in deep with local traditions: visiting brandy distilleries, meeting carpet makers, hearing spiritual chants in ancient monasteries, and learning to make lavash (a type of local flatbread) with an Armenian family,” Bloomberg wrote.

Armenia is listed 10th on the top 10 list.

First is San Marino, followed by Georgia and Israel.

Turkey, Iceland, Macedonia, Azerbaijan, Moldova and Bosnia and Herzegovina are also included.

Asked if the involvement of police troops is associated with border tension, Tonoyan said it’s not, and that it is standard procedure.

Until 2009, Ismailov owned Europe’s then-largest marketplace, Cherkizovsky Market, located in Moscow, Russia.

A court is expected to set a measure of restraint (pre-trial detention, bail….) for the defendants on September 18.

‘We succeeded in creating democratic administration system’ – Pashinyan’s interview to French Le Monde

Politics

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan was interviewed by the French Le Monde newspaper during his recent visit to France.

In the interview, the PM emphasized that since he took office there are no longer any privileged persons or privileges in Armenia, and that they are fighting an unprecedented fight against corruption and the underground economy [black market].

– What have you been able to change in Armenia after four month since taking office?

– The press is freer than ever now. For the first time in the history of the third republic there are no longer the privileged or privileges. We are fighting an unprecedented fight against corruption and underground economy. Economic monopolies no longer exist. Election of a mayor will take place September 23rd in the Armenian capital, which will become the freest in history. Unlike other revolutions, at least the ones I am aware of, in our case the revolution was not followed by economic decline. On the contrary, the indicators are positive, the capital is returning to the country, real estate prices are growing, bank deposits are growing. We succeeded in creating a democratic administration system.

– You were elected by parliament under public pressure, but MPs who were elected during the tenure of Serzh Sargsyan continue comprising majority there. Is this acceptable?

– When the parliament was electing me Prime Minister, I could only rely on four votes, one of which was mine. This parliament is a black stain in our political reality, but we must see the situation in its balance.

Vice Speaker of the Parliament: If the post of CSTO Secretary General passes to another country, all political responsibility for this will fall on Prime Minister Pashinyan

Vice Speaker of the Parliament: If the post of CSTO Secretary General passes to another country, all political responsibility for this will fall on Prime Minister Pashinyan

Yerevan August 28

Ani Mshetsyan. Recently, the new Armenian authorities, unfortunately, made many mistakes. On August 28, Vice-Speaker of the National Assembly of Armenia, Republican Party spokesman Eduard Sharmazanov stated this during a conversation with journalists.

Sharmazanov said that at a rally on August 17 the Prime Minister stated that the Armenian-Russian relations are remarkable and are actively developing. "Over the past 25 years, I have never seen or heard any hint from the Russian foreign minister that the Armenian government, which is a strategic ally of the Russian Federation, says one thing and does something completely different: Armenian-Russian or Armenian– American relations will not develop by toasting.

I also have concerns related, in particular, to the CSTO. The statement of the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has once again confirmed that no one simply presented the position of the CSTO Secretary General to Armenia. Serzh Sargsyan did everything possible to ensure that the post of secretary general in this authoritative organization was given to Armenia. If one day the position of the secretary general passes to another country, then all political responsibility for this will lie with Prime Minister Pashinyan and his government, "the vice-speaker stressed. The RPA spokesman stressed that today we should look forward, as the future is very vague and the government should be ready to face the possible challenges. "Let no one get the impression that we are happy with the deterioration of the Armenian-Russian relations, that Lavrov touched Pashinyan's government, or Peter Switalsky said that the current government of the Republic of Armenia does not have a clear position on possible assistance from the EU. it's too early to talk about large-scale investments by American companies in Armenia's economy, we are not happy with all this, time has shown that we are most interested in stability in our country, at least in the sphere of security. Shade serious, and they need to articulate Unfortunately, during the meeting on 17 August, we witnessed performances Pashinyan, who for some time has forgotten that he is now a major political figure in Armenia, and this is very sad, "-. concluded Sharmazanov.

It should be noted that chairman of the Foreign Relations Committee Armen Ashotyan, on his Facebook page, Facebook published a statement stating that the leaders of other CSTO member countries would prefer to see the representative of their country as their secretary general. Ashotyan noted that all this became possible only thanks to the policy of Serzh Sargsyan. "The new authorities of Armenia are obliged to make every effort to preserve the post of the CSTO Secretary General after the scandal for the republic," the deputy concluded.

It should be reminded that the President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko in an interview with the Belarus-1 TV channel stated that Belarus offered other candidates for the post of the Collective Security Treaty Organization Secretary General, and was right. "We looked deeper on this issue – from the point of view of the new leadership of Armenia, the policy pursued by Nikol Pashinyan and his government, we discussed our joint actions in the Collective Security Treaty Organization and the problems that now exist in the CSTO itself, as well as those areas of action for which are the responsibility of the members of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, "Lukashenko said. It should be reminded that CSTO Secretary General Yury Khachaturov is accused of overthrowing the constitutional order in the so-called "March 1, 2008 case." At that time he held the post of the head of the Yerevan garrison. By a court decision of July 28, he was arrested and then released on bail in the amount of 5 million drams. In the same case, the second Armenian President Robert Kocharian and former Defense Minister Mikael Harutyunyan are on the wanted list. On August 2, the Special Investigative Service stated that the preventive measure chosen against Yuri Khachaturov is not an obstacle for him to absent himself from Armenia for some time. At the same time, the CAS did not detail the permissible period of its absence. Official Yerevan invited CSTO colleagues to consider the possibility of replacing the candidacy of the CSTO Secretary General from Armenia in connection with the criminal prosecution of Yuri Khachaturov.

Armenia’s court of appeals releases former president Kocharyan from custody

ARKA , Armenia
Aug 13 2018

YEREVAN, August 13. /ARKA/. Armenia’s Court of Appeals announced today its decision on a petition filed by ex-president Robert Kocharyan’s lawyers against his arrest, releasing Kocharyan from custody.

Ruben Sahakyan, a defense lawyer for Kocharyan, said the ruling of the Court of Appeals was based on the presidential immunity. According to Armenian Constitution, during the term of his or her powers and thereafter, the President of the Republic may not be prosecuted and subjected to liability for actions deriving from his or her status. Sahakyan added that Kocharyan is still a suspect in the case,

Earlier the Office of the Prosecutor-General declined an appeal signed by 46 members of the parliament, to release Robert Kocharyan from custody pending investigation into the 2008 post-election violence in Yerevan. The lawmakers, the bulk from the former ruling Republican Party of Armenia, guaranteed in writing that Kocharyan will not flee prosecution if set free.

A Yerevan district court late on July 27 ruled that the Special Investigative Service (SIS) could hold Kocharyan for two months in pre-trial detention pending investigation. The case dates back to late February and early March 2008 following the disputed presidential election, when then prime minister Serzh Sargsyan was declared the winner, angering the opposition, led by the first Armenian president Levon Ter-Petrosyan and setting off 10 days of nonstop protests that led to a crackdown on March 1, in which 10 people were killed and more than 200 injured.

Kocharyan was charged with toppling constitutional order in collusion with other persons, and the agency has applied to court for a detention warrant.  The same charge was brought against Yuri Khachaturov, secretary general of the Collective Security Treaty Organization, who had been the chief of the Yerevan garrison at the time of the bloody events of 2008.  However, Khachaturov was released on bail, for AMD 5 million.

Also former defense minister Mikael Harutyunyan is wanted by the law-enforcement authorities as a defendant in the case. He is accused of illegally using the Armenian armed forces against opposition supporters who demonstrated in Yerevan in the wake of the disputed presidential election held in February 2008. –0—-

Turkish Press: Fresh suit filed for massive inheritance of Turkish-Armenian brothel owner Manukyan

Hurriyet Daily News, Turkey
Aug 11 2018

Sixteen plaintiffs have filed a suit in Istanbul for the massive inheritance of Turkish-Armenian brothel owner Matild Manukyan seventeen years after her death.

Manukyan, who was one of the top tax payers in Turkey, died in 2001 and left behind a huge fortune, including 486 properties, dozens of cars, as well as millions in cash and stocks.

Manukyan’s inheritance was bequeathed to Kerope Çilingir, who was officially registered as his son.

Sixteen relatives of Manukyan, who live in the eastern province of Muş and the western provinces İzmir and Kocaeli, filed a fresh case over the inheritance last week at the Istanbul Civil Court of Peace.

The plaintiffs argued that Çilingir “usurped” the inheritance although he was not the late woman’s son.

According to their attorney, who said he concluded a years-long research over the issue, Manukyan’s fortune was mostly based on inheritance she received from her great uncle Armenak Chah Mouradian and her grandmother Susan Chah Mouradian.

Manukyan had no sons or daughters. My clients were her only relatives and legal heirs. But Kerope Çilingir usurped the inheritance,” the petition said, asking the court to “correct the error in the registry” and enforce an injuction to "keep Çilingir from selling the remaining properties.”
