Leaders of non-governmental organizations of Nagorno-Karabakh and
experts made a statement on July 17 proclaiming that intermediaries’
calls to honor the Madrid Principles collided with the interests of
Karabakh and Armenia.

Authors of the statement pointed out that tension in the conflict area
had been deliberately aggravated. "Security of the Nagorno-Karabakh
Republic and the Republic of Armenia – and therefore security of
the region as such – is compromised. Intermediaries’ penchant for
neglect of the realities and legitimate rights of citizens of the
Nagorno-Karabakh Republic destabilize the situation."

According to the authors, the process of conflict settlement without
representatives of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic had already proved
its utter inadequacy. They urged the involved parties to "put an end
to this political farce."

Authors of the statement suggested normalization of the
Azerbaijani-Karabakh relations on the basis of acceptance of the
actual situation and through "a dramatic revision of the existing
format and basic principles of the negotiations."

SAVE THE DATE FOR REOPENING OF ST. ILLUMINATORS
CATHEDRAL
St. Illuminators Cathedral, which has been undergoing a major
renovation, is
preparing for a blessed re-opening on the weekend of September 19 and
20. On Saturday, September 19, His Eminence will re-consecrate the
Cathedrals altar, and on Sunday, September 20, he will celebrate the
Divine Liturgy and deliver the
sermon.
The Cathedrals infrastructure was in serious disrepair. As the
renovation progressed the
overall condition of the Cathedral was found to be worse than
originally believed. The renovation has included renewal of all
utilities, and major
renovation of the sanctuary, offices, hall, and rest rooms.

HOLY SEE OF CILICIA TAKES PART IN CONFERENCE
ON KARABAGH AND TURKISH
RELATIONS
Bishop Nareg Alemezian represented His Holiness Catholicos Aram I at
the pan-Armenian
conference on Karabagh and Armenian-Turkish Relations, which took
place July 10-12 in Stepanakert, the capital of the Republic of
Nagorno-Karabagh, under the auspices of President Pako Sahakian. The
organizers of the conference were the Central Council on the Armenian
Question
(Hai Tad) and the Punik Humanitarian Foundation.

This is my 3rd year at Datev and what an
amazing experience it has been! I am surrounded by loving and caring
people. I learn something new every day and I learn more about my
culture and
heritage. Datev is the place to
be!

Datev is an amazing experience. Its a place where you
meet new people, have fun, and ultimately, learn. I particularly enjoy
the Datev games. These games take place during free time and consist
of many
events. The teams are divided by crews and each team has to choose a
group name and motto. Our crew was called the Lunch Crew
and our motto was, Dont make a mess with the best. There were a whole
bunch of different events, like physical activities and
questions about religion/Datev. In the end, we all had a lot of fun
and I am definitely looking forward to coming back next
year.

My first year at Datev was great! Ive learned a lot
of things about Armenian religion. Ive made a lot of new friends from
around the East Coast. Also, the Der Hayrs answer all of my
many questions. The short church services were spiritually
moving. Datev is the
best!

S TS. THADDEUS AND SANDOUKHT
This Saturday,
July 25, the Armenian Church commemorates St. Thaddeus and
St. Santoukht. According to the historian Movses Khorenatsi, the
apostle Thaddeus came to
Edessa where he healed the sick and baptized King Abgar. Khorenatsi
writes that from Edessa, Thaddeus went to Armenia where he preached
and converted
the Armenian king, Sanatrouk, and the kings daughter, Sandoukht. When
faced with the opposition of his governors, the king recanted his
conversion. Sandoukht, however, refused to renounce the Christian
faith. She was imprisoned and executed by order of her father, and
thus became
Armenias first martyr.

Thaddeus was martyred at Artaz (in present day northern Iran).
The Armenian monastery of St. Thaddeus is built on the apostles
tomb. During the early 20th century the monastery was an important
crossroads
for the defense of the Armenian population of Van, Daron, and
surrounding areas. A popular pilgrimage by Armenians from around the
world takes place
every July. During the four-day festival thousands gather and pitch
tents on the monastery grounds, attend services, sing and dance in
remembrance of
St. Thaddeus, one of the two apostles who brought Christianity to
Armenia. St. Thaddeus Monastery and the other famous Armenian
monastery in northern
Iran, St. Stephen Monastery on the banks of the Arax River, have
undergone major renovations in recent years.

TV TOWER CLOSED FOR PREVENTIVE REASONS: NO NEED TO WORRY

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Every three months, Yerevan TV Tower is
closed down for preventive reasons, Samvel Papyan, Deputy General
Director on TV-radio broadcast transmission told a PanARMENIAN.Net
correspondent. That’s very important for cooling down the electric
equipment which is often overexposed to heat. "Schedule for preventive
closedowns is drawn up at the beginning of every year and sent to
all TV stations. I am unaware why they didn’t inform public about it,
although they were obliged to," he stressed.

The closedown of all TV stations on July 21 has caused concerns
in society.

"Azerbaijan and Armenia could not achieve the desired results at
presidents’ Moscow meeting."

Azerbaijani Presidential Administration International Relations
Department Head Novruz Mammadov said in his comments on the meeting
of the Azerbaijani and Armenian President that took place in Moscow
on July 18-18.

"The presidents went to the Moscow meeting with great optimism, taking
into account the processes that occurred prior to the meeting – this
is a constructive approach Armenia demonstrated in the St. Petersburg
meeting and then a joint statement by the heads of the OSCE Minsk Group
co-chair countries Nicolas Sarkozy, Dmitry Medvedev and Barack Obama.

We believed there would be opportunity to achieve significant progress
in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict at the Moscow meeting. But
as I understand it, despite all this, Armenia has been far from being
constructive to a certain extent at this meeting," Mammadov said.

Azerbaijan, Armenia should compromise: OSCE secretary general

Armenia and Azerbaijan should make concessions in the Nagorno-Karabakh
conflict settlement, OSCE Secretary General Marc Perrin de Brichambaut
believes.

"I believe today’s Moscow meeting between Azerbaijani and Armenian
Presidents, Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan is an important stage,"
Brichambaut said at a news conference on the results of his visit to
Azerbaijan in Baku on July 17.

The talks between the two leaders will take place in Moscow on July 17
and 18 as part of the informal meeting at the horse races for the
Russian president’s prize. The talks will continue with Russian
President Dmitriy Medvedev’s participation tomorrow.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988
when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. Armenian
armed forces have occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan since 1992,
including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and 7 surrounding
districts. Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in
1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group – Russia, France, and the
U.S. – are currently holding the peace negotiations.

The OSCE Secretary General has attached great importance to the
statement by the presidents of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chair-countries
(Russia, United States and France) during the G-8 summit in the
Italian L’Aquila city which as he states, "testifies importance of the
resolution of this conflict".

It is noteworthy that a strong revival is observed in the OSCE Minsk
Group co-chairs’ activities, the Secretary General said.

"Yesterday during the meeting with President Aliyev, I witnessed his
interest in the progress of resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh issue. I
hope that this conflict will soon be resolved," Brichambaut said.

De Brichambaut is on a three-day visit to Baku since July 15.

Presidents of Azerbaijan and Armenia held talks in Moscow on the
peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict

The presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev and Serzh
Sargsyan held talks in Moscow on the peaceful settlement of the
Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The follow-up information for the press was
not disclosed.

July 18, there is expected a tripartite meeting of Heads of Azerbaijan
and Armenia with the President of Russia Dmitry Medvedev.

Over the last year this is sixth meeting in a format of Aliyev –
Sargsian. Previous talks between Armenian and Azererbaijan Presidents
Ilham Aliyev and Serzh Sargsyan took place June 4 in
St. Petersburg. The summit was the fifth between the heads of two
countries on the Karabakh settlement. Previous meeting was held in
Prague on May 7. The first talks were held June of last year in
St. Petersburg, the second meeting was held in late November 2008 in
Moscow, the third – in Zurich on January 28 this year.

or FC Pyunik if they progress to the third qualifying round of the
Uefa Champions League.

Bohs have high hopes of reaching that stage after their 1-1 first

A three-party meeting between the Russian, Azeri and Armenian
presidents regarding the Nagorno Karabakh conflict will be held in
Moscow on July 18, Kremlin aid Sergei Prikhodko has announced.

"A meeting will be held in Moscow on July 17 between Azeri President
Ilham Aliyev and Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan regarding settlement
of the Nagorno-Karabakh problem," Prikhodko said at a press briefing
in Moscow.

"A three-party meeting is being planned, with Russian President Dmitry
Medvedev’s participation, after the Armenian-Azeri talks," he said.

The three-party summit is likely to take place on July 18, Prikhodko
said.

adopted at the three-party summit.

"A difficult process of forging decisions, acceptable for Armenia
and Azerbaijan, is underway," he said.

ARMENIAN COMMUNITY OF LOS ANGELES EXPRESSES CONDOLENCES TO RELATIVES OF VICTIMS OF TU-154 PLANE CRASH

of TU-154 plane crash which was travelling from Tehran to Yerevan on
July 15 the Armenian community of Los Angeles expresses condolences
with deep sorrow to the families and relatives of the victims.

According to the report of the community, on the occasion of the
mourning day which was declared in Armenia the RA state flag near
the RA Consulate General building in Glendale was lowered on July
15, 18:00.

On July 19, headed by the North America’s Western Diocese leader
Archbishop Hovnan Derderian, a ceremony of requiem in the memory
of July 15 victims will take place in all Armenian churches of Los
Angeles.

SERZH SARGSYAN HAS PHONE CONVERSATION WITH PRESIDENT OF IRAN

a phone conversation on July 15 with President of the Islamic Republic
of Iran Mahmoud Ahmadinejad and condoled with him on the occasion of
death of a great number of Iran citizens in the consequance of the
crash. M. Ahmadinejad in his turn condoled with his Armenian colleague.

As Noyan Tapan was informed by the RA President’s Press Office,
the Presidents reached agreement on coordinating the two countries’
corresponding departments in the issue of studying the causes of the
crash and taking necessary steps.
