ANKARA REFUTING: DAVUTOGLU DID NOT HAVE INTERVIEW WITH AZERBAIJANI APA AGENCY

Turkish Foreign Ministry refuted the credibility of an interview by
the Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu with the Azerbaijani
APA news agency.

Turkish Foreign Ministry Press Secretary Buraq Ozugergin was reported
as saying that Mr Ahmet Davutoglu did not have such an interview with
APA. In his words the statement that APA attached to Davutoglu are
not his.

The interview published by APA on April 13 quoted Davutoglu as saying:
"Our prime minister is very interested in explaining to the Armenian
leaders the sensitive points of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. We
believe Azerbaijan is an integral part of a solution to the problem
in the Caucasus and says its exclusion from the process is out of the
question. It is unquestionable for Turkey to leave Azerbaijan out of
the cycle in any manner.

Armenia is ready to establish relations with Turkey without any
preconditions, though it is delaying the ratification of the protocols,
Speaker of the RA Parliament Hovik Abrahamyan stated at his meeting
with President of Lebanon Michel Suleiman.

The press service of the RA Parliament informed NEWS.am that Speaker
Abrahamyan pointed out the unacceptability of Turkey’s linking the
ratification of the protocols to the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process.

Armenia is ready to establish normal relations with all of its
neighbors, without, however, destroying the Armenian people’s dignity.

The Lebanese President underlined the importance of normalizing
relations with neighbors by diplomatic means. He also stressed the
unacceptability of violating small peoples’ rights.

Speaking of the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, Hovik Abrahamyan
underlined the necessity for settling the conflict following the
principle of peoples’ right to self-determination. He stressed that
Nagorno-Karabakh cannot be part of Azerbaijan.

The sides also discussed bilateral cooperation and regional problems,
pointing out the need for intensifying bilateral cooperation in
ensuring regional peace and stability.

Speaker Abrahamyan also held a meeting with Lebanese Prime
Minister Saad Hariri. The sides discussed the issue of holding an
Armenian-Lebanese business forum during Hariri’s visit to Armenia
scheduled for this September.

Hovik Abrahamyan held meetings with the Lebanese Foreign Minister and
with Mayor of Baalbek. He laid flowers at the grave of the assassinated
Lebanese Premier Rafik Hariri and met with representatives of the
Armenian community.

ARMENIA REPEATEDLY STATED RELUCTANCE TO DISCUSS KARABAKH ISSUE WITH TURKEY: SHARMAZANOV

The Nagorno-Karabakh problem will not be discussed at the
Sargsyan-Erdogan meeting to be held today, Eduard Sharmazanov,
Secretary of the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) faction told
NEWS.am, commenting on the Turkish side’s recent statement.

"The Armenian side has repeatedly stated it has no intention to
discus the Nagorno-Karabakh problem with Turkey, as that state
displays a biased approach to the problem. I do not think that
the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process will be discussed at the
Sargsyan-Erdogan meeting," Sharmazanov said.

As regards the possibility of any result in the process of ratifying
the Armenian-Turkish protocols, Sharmazanov pointed out that Serzh
Sargsyan’s consent to meet with Recep Erdogan is evidence of the
Armenian side’s good will and commitment to normalizing relations
with Turkey without any preconditions. "I think that, as long as
negotiations go on, progress may be expected at any stage. In any case,
the ball is now on the Turkish part of the field. Ankara must realize
if it remains committed to its signature on the Armenian-Turkish
protocols in Zurich," he said.

Vladimir Karapetyan of the Armenian National Congress (ANC) voiced
his concern over the fact that, despite his previous statements,
the Armenian President accepted Erdogan’s proposal for a meeting in
Washington. "Turkey wants to simulate an intensified dialogue with
Armenia on the threshold of the 95th anniversary of the Armenian
Genocide to impede the process of international recognition of the
Armenian Genocide. President Sargsyan, in turn, helps Ankara’s policy
by accepting Erdogan’s proposal," Karapetyan said.

He is also concerned over President Sargsyan’s consent to discuss
the Nagorno-Karabakh problem with Erdogan. "If Sargsyan had not given
his consent to discuss the Nagorno-Karabakh problem with Edrogan, he
would have either refused to meet with the Turkish Premier or refuted
Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu’s statement that Erdogan
and Sargsyan would discuss the issue in Washington," Karapetyan said.

The Armenian President and the Turkish Premier are in Washington,
USA, to participate in the nuclear security summit. The two are to
hold a meeting this evening.

THE REPRESENTATIVE OF THE EDITORIAL BOARD OF "DER SPIEGEL" EXPRESSED
ITS WILLINGNESS TO CORRECT INACCURACIES: PRESS SPOKESPERSON OF THE
ARMENIAN PRESIDENT

In the interview of the RA president Srezh Sargsyan given to the
magazine "Der Spiegel", as a result of reduction and translation of
the editors of the mentioned magazine some inaccuracies took place,
spokesman of the president of Armenia, Armen Arzumanyan said.

In particular, referring to the Azerbaijani version of the Karabakh
conflict settlement, the Armenian President said: "If Azerbaijan
recognized the independence of the Nagorno-Karabakh, I think the issue
could be resolved in few hours. Unfortunately, they still think that
they should return Karabakh. Returning Karabakh to Azerbaijan means a
complete expulsion of Armenians from the Nagorno-Karabakh within a
short period of time.

The spokesman for the Armenian President also noted that the editorial

Mise en espace Danilo Nigrelli
Aiuto regia Silvia Scotto
I personaggi
mantenerli in vita.

EAFJD welcomes EU commitment to Armenia-Turkey normalization

EAFJD welcomes EU’s commitment to Armenia-Turkey normalization without
preconditions

armradio.am

The European Armenian Federation for Justice& Democracy welcomes the
statement by EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Mrs.
Catherine Ashton, confirming European Union’s unwavering commitment to
the normalization of relations between Armenia and Turkey without any
pre-conditions.

The Federation would further point out that inherent in the EU
statement is the recognition by EU’s highest-level leadership that an
imbalance exists between the disposition of Armenia which has followed
the `no pre-conditions’ principle and has submitted the signed
Protocols to its Parliament, and that of Turkey, which is insisting on
pre-conditions thus halting the ratification process, while at the
same time making statements in support of the normalization process.

The Federation also commends the European executive for its active
efforts toward reinforcement of ties, within the Eastern Partnership
framework, between Armenia and the European Union leading to closer
political association and economic integration.

`At the same time, we deeply regret that so far there has not been a
strong and unanimous condemnation, by the European Union’s leadership,
of Prime Minister Erdogan’s open threats to deport the Armenians
living in Turkey in retaliation for the US congressional consideration
of the Armenian Genocide resolution,’ declared Hilda Tchoboian,
Chairwoman of the European Armenian Federation.

`Turkey’s present blockade of Armenia and its systematic policy of
denial of the Armenian Genocide should lead the European Union to have
a full appreciation of Turkey’s politics of aggression in the region,’
added Hilda Tchoboian.

The European Armenians expect the European leadership to stand firm on
its refusal of any pre-conditions to normalization of relations. They
also expect the leaders of Europe to clearly demand that the Turkish
blockade of Armenia is lifted once and for all.

ANCA Calls On Obama To Honor Armenian Genocide Recognition Pledge

ANCA CALLS ON OBAMA TO HONOR ARMENIAN GENOCIDE RECOGNITION PLEDGE

PanARMENIAN.Net
April 8, 2010 – 11:45 AMT 06:45 GMT

The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) went on record,
once again, asking President Obama to honor his campaign promise to
recognize the Armenian Genocide.

The one-page letter, signed by ANCA Chairman Ken Hachikian and sent in
the days leading up to President Obama’s second April 24th in office,
asks, simply, that President Obama keep his commitment and "stand for
a policy that is truthful, just, and worthy of the American people."

Hachikian also addressed two points of special concern that have
further compounded the anger and outrage felt by Armenian American
voters over the President’s broken promise; his pressure on Armenia to
accept the one-sided, pro-Ankara Protocols; his support for Turkey’s
"historical commission" denial tactic; and his attacks on the
Armenian Genocide Resolution. The first dealt with the unfortunate
and inappropriate practice by the current and previous presidents
to use April 24th, a day of solemn remembrance, as a platform to
offer policy statements about Armenia, Turkey, and the surrounding
region. The second concerned the fact that the President, despite
devoting considerable attention to Armenian issues, has yet to agree,
consistent with his campaign promise, to meet with the broad-based
leadership of the Armenian American community.
