Forecast: Azerbaijani provocations will not stop with the surrender of Berdzor

ArmInfo. All recent actions of Azerbaijan in Artsakh are a consequence of military realities between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Hovik Aghazaryan, MP from the Civil Contract  parliamentary faction, expressed a similar opinion to ArmInfo.

"Baku, realizing that the Artsakh problem is still far from being  resolved, and the post-war realities are not limited only to its  statements, according to which "there is no more Karabakh problem",  moreover, "there is no Karabakh itself", today resorts to military  provocations, with the hope of achieving the results of the 44-day  war," he said.

According to the parliamentarian,  it is within the framework of this  logic Azerbaijan is in a hurry to solve the Lachin Corridor issue,  striving to quickly complete what was started on September 27, 2020,  although according to the same statement of November 9, three years  have been allocated for this. And as an argument, it presents the  bypass road built in the direction of Teghi and Kornidzor.

According to the parliamentarian, one way or another, the land  connection between Armenia and Artsakh cannot be interrupted.  Regardless of whether or not Armenia will build a bypass, alternative  road in Artsakh on time. At the same time, Aghazaryan expressed  confidence in the continuation of Azerbaijani provocations in Artsakh  and on the border with Armenia after the surrender of Berdzor.

"The reason for such a forecast is still the same – Baku is  dissatisfied with the results of the last war.  Accordingly, it will  continue to put pressure on us through shelling, regardless of the  terms of Berdzor's handover, while continuing to promise its society  to get to Sevan, Meghri, Yerevan, etc. Accordingly, regardless of  everything, we must be ready to launch a worthy counterattack at any  moment," he stressed.

Recalling that the surrender of Berdzor was originally agreed on  November 9, 2020, Aghazaryan stressed that the Armenian government  does not intend to make any other territorial concessions, primarily  on the issue of the so-called corridor through the Syunik region of  Armenia. According to him, today it is only about the possibility of  communication between Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan in accordance with  the legislation of Armenia.

EU calls for immediate end to armed clashes between Armenia and Azerbaijan

Aug. 4 (UPI) — The European Union is calling for an immediate end to deadly military clashes between Azerbaijani and Armenian forces around the Lachin corridor and elsewhere along the Line of Contact along their disputed border.

In a statement, the EU said, "It is essential to de-escalate, fully respect the ceasefire and return to the negotiating table to seek negotiated solutions."

European Council President Charles Michel is "closely engaged" with leaders of both countries, according to the EU. He has spoken with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and will speak soon with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.

Azerbaijan alleges that an Azerbaijani soldier was killed Wednesday in a clash as construction of a new road was underway in the Lachin corridor.

RELATEDArmenia signs peace deal to end fighting in Nagorno-Karabakh

"Accusations shared by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia against Azerbaijan in violation of the trilateral statement are nothing but mere hypocrisy," the Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"The bloody incident and killing of an Azerbaijani soldier on Aug. 3 is precisely the result of Armenia's failure to fulfill its obligations."

Armenia's Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted Thursday that the "Azerbaijani side officially and openly assumed responsibility for aggression."

The Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs accused Azerbaijan of violating the Trilateral Statement of Russia, Armenia and Azerbaijan on the cessation of hostilities "in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone, resulting in casualties."

"Despite the steps undertaken by the Armenian side for achieving stability and peace in the region, Azerbaijan continues its pre-planned policy of terrorizing the population of Nagorno-Karabakh, subjecting them to ethnic cleansing and creeping occupation of Nagorno-Karabakh," the Armenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement.

The Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in its statement, "We emphasize that the reason for the recent tension is the presence of illegal Armenian armed troops in the territories of Azerbaijan and provocations instigated by them."

Azerbaijan and Armenia agreed in November to a Russia-brokered cease-fire along their disputed border.

The EU statement calling for Armenia and Azerbaijan to end the armed clashes said, "The European Union remains committed to help overcome tensions and continue its engagement toward sustainable peace and stability in the South Caucasus."

Protesters storm Azerbaijani Embassy in London and take down flag

Eight men have been arrested after a group of protesters stormed the Azerbaijani embassy in London, Metro reports.

Footage on social media showed men waving flags from the balcony of the country’s base in Kensington.

Slogans in Arabic were daubed on the wall and the Azerbaijani flag was taken down.

It’s unclear what sparked the protest but it was led by a group called The Mahdi Servants Union.

It is a Shia Muslim organization based in London which says it wants to establish ‘civilizational dominance’ on its website.

Members linked to the group have cited ‘persecution’ by the Azerbaijani government of some Shia Muslims in the country.

In a statement, the group said it had been directed by their leader ‘to take urgent action’ against Azerbaijan president Ilham Aliyev.

Leader of the group Yasser Al-Habib, who was granted asylum in the UK after coming into conflict with the authorities in his native Kuwait, runs a mosque in Buckinghamshire.

AW: The largest Armenian summer festival in Europe takes over London

LONDON—Thousands attended the popular and much-loved annual Armenian Summer Festival (ASF) in London on Sunday. What has become a yearly ritual for UK-based Armenians is also recognized as the largest Armenian event of the summer in Europe.

Armenians and non-Armenians alike from across the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland gathered to celebrate their identity and their roots.

“When I first came to the UK as a primate, the time coincided with the ASF. I did not know what was going to happen. Back then it was a much smaller scale,” recalled His Grace Bishop Hovakim Manukyan. “Now, we see thousands of Armenians and non-Armenians come together to enjoy the many elements of our rich culture. It is a day that we all wait for until it comes and miss when it ends.”

His Grace Bishop Hovakim Manukyan alongside His Excellence Ambassador Varuzhan Nersesyan, members of parliament and honorable guests.

The way meat should be cooked and lahmajun should taste was dictated by those cooking up a heavenly range of Armenian cuisine that sent guests on a one-way journey to Yerevan. The food was complemented by several Armenian specialtiesone of which was a perfectly chilled bottle of Kilikia beer. As is prevalent in most Armenian get-togethers, the food and drink was a prominent part of the day. ASF chair Bedros Aslanyan relayed the importance of “bringing the entire Armenian community together irrespective of their background, political or religious persuasions.” He said, “The festival helps unite different parts of the Armenian community and continuously sends a strong message to the next generations.”

The day was led by dynamic duo Teni Matian and Vanouhi Petrosyan, who were the emcees and ensured seamless entertainment. Petrosyan is passionate about the festival and how it “provides the opportunity to explore the full spectrum of Armenian arts and culture.” She said, “It was my pleasure to emcee the festival this year. She arrived with infectious energy and gave an unforgettable performance. “I am really happy the UK Armenian Church organizes such events. It has such a positive impact on the Armenian community. Some of her songs were inspired by her trip to discover her roots in Armenia. Well-known entertainer Kev Orkian was interviewed by Andre Simonian and touched on many key topics, one of which is how we can evolve as Armenians. The festival also featured an open-mic segment.

The accomplished ‘Akhtamar’ APG dance group gave a masterful performance leaving many eager to join in. The energy soared when the group performed ‘Yarkoushta’ and other signature songs. The group delivered exemplary synchronicity and showcased Armenian culture proudly. “ASF is all about Armenian culture, values and beliefs,” said dancer Elberg Grigoryan. “Performing Armenian traditional dances is the best way to gather all Armenians together and ensure that our rich culture is being treasured and passed onto the younger generations. As an Akhtamar performer, I am always fueled by the love of the dance but also the love reciprocated from the audience.”

The festival hosted over 20 Armenian-led businesses and organizations enabling them to share their visionary works with all. The children’s corner gave the younger ones a chance to explore their heritage in crafting Armenian related artworks. All age groups were destined to have an enjoyable time.

The day to remember was thanks to the many organizers and volunteers who made it possible. Each aspect of the day embraced excellence, even the weather. Bishop Manukyan concluded, “In London, it usually rains. But when asked how we manage to make it sunny every year on the day of the festival, I answer, ‘We are the Armenian church. We have a direct line of contact above.’”

YEREVAN, JULY 12, ARMENPRESS. By creating a ministry of interior and making a number of other changes, the government of Armenia aims at making the service in the system more attractive, and the country’s internal security environment – more manageable, Chairman of the Parliament’s Standing Committee of Defense and Security Affairs Andranik Kocharyan said during the parliamentary hearings on the creation of the ministry of internal affairs.

“Police reforms have a special place in the reforms relating to security in the government’s 2021-2026 action plan, with a priority given to the establishment of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. Within the frames of these reforms, we have managed to create a patrol service in the capital city and already in some provinces, and its activity framework is gradually expanding across Armenia. With its high professionalism it will become competitive and will constantly expand the professional capacities”, Kocharyan said.

According to him, by restoring the Ministry of Interior the government will solve several important issues. The concrete functions of the ministry will be defined, a new system for training personnel will be installed. In fact, the ministry of interior will become a body developing the sectoral domestic policy.

“Democratic control over power structures is one of the key principles of the countries with a parliamentary system of governance. And by creating the Ministry of Interior, we not only will make the structure more under control, but also will contribute to increasing its transparent operation and accountability. This and a number of other changes will lead to the point that we will make the service in the system more attractive on the one hand, and the internal security environment of our state more manageable, on the other hand”, he said.

He said that these hearings aim at making the public participants of these important reforms.

Environmental activist Levon Galstyan has sounded the alarm over oil-covered white storks in an Armenian village.

“The contamination of storks continues and the birds are dying because of our attitude towards nature. The government agencies have failed to resolve the issue for 7-8 years now,” he wrote on Facebook on Saturday.

The activist posted a video of the polluted birds from the village of Dashtavan in Ararat Province.

“The locals alerted us that there are scores of storks with contaminated feathers on the verge of extinction,” Galstyan said.
