Syrian Ambassador to Armenia: We urge all parliaments in the world to recognize and condemn the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire

Arminfo, Armenia
Feb 13 2020

ArmInfo. The resolution on the recognition of the Armenian Genocide, adopted today by the Syrian parliament, confirms that the Armenian Genocide was committed by the  Ottoman Empire in the territories of Syria and Western Armenia. The  Ambassador of Syria to Armenia Mohammed Haj Ibrahim announced this at  a press conference.

"The Syrian parliament today recognized and condemned the Armenian  Genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire in the early 20th century.  It also condemns any attempt by anyone to deny this crime and distort  historical truth. The resolution confirms that this crime is one of  the most cruel, most heinous crimes against humanity, "the Ambassador  emphasized.

According to Haj Ibrahim, the Syrian parliament also calls on all  parliaments of the world and the international community to recognize  and condemn the 1915 Armenian Genocide. "Today, terrorist groups that  commit terrible acts against the Syrian people are the grandchildren  of those who once committed genocide against Armenians and other  peoples. Turkey is now aggressing against Syria, and terrorist groups  operating in Idlib and elsewhere are supported from the Turkish  government, "he stressed.

The Syrian Ambassador to Armenia stated that the Armenians who  survived the Genocide and moved to Syria have always been an integral  part of Syrian society. According to him, the Armenians in Syria  continued to live in safety, preserving their religion, language and  identity. There are many churches in Syria that perpetuate the memory  of the victims of the Armenian Genocide, and this year the history of  the Armenian Genocide will appear in history textbooks.

Asked why only today the Syrian parliament adopts a resolution  recognizing the Armenian Genocide, the Ambassador replied: "This  issue has long been studied, and the Syrian government treats Syrians  of Armenian descent with all respect and sympathy. Mass pogroms of  Armenians have always been mentioned in Syria as part of those events  held in the Armenian-populated areas of Syria. In 2015, the then  speaker of the Syrian parliament took part in events dedicated to the  100th anniversary of the genocide, and this year the parliament  issued a statement stating that that genocide was committed against  Armenians. "

It should be noted that on February 13, the Syrian parliament  unanimously adopted a resolution on the recognition and condemnation  of the Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire. Thus, the Syrian  parliament joined the more than 30 parliaments of the world that  adopted resolutions on the recognition and condemnation of the  Armenian Genocide.

The fact of the genocide of the Armenian people in the Ottoman  Empire, whose victims in 1915 were up to 1.5 million ethnic  Armenians, is recognized by many states. Uruguay was the first in  1965, followed by France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Poland,  Russia, Lithuania, Slovakia, Sweden, Switzerland, Greece, Cyprus,  Lebanon, Canada, Venezuela, Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Vatican,  Bolivia, Czech Republic, Austria, Luxembourg. The European Parliament  and the World Council of Churches also recognized the Armenian  Genocide.

Armenian designer creates new brand, Yerishi, in Milan

Aravot, Armenia
Feb 7 2020

Armenians across the world have always been able to capture attention in many different fields. Fashion is no exception. Ethnic Armenian designer and stylist Irina Yeritsyan created a new brand, Yerishi, in Milan, which is known for its luxury and limited edition purses. The brand has already become well-known and a favorite of many due to the quality and uniqueness of these purses.

Irina Yeritsyan was born in Yerevan, but spent her childhood in the USA. She loved to travel and get the most out of life. Since she intended to be closer to international culture, she decided to continue her education abroad and moved to Budapest in 2010. She graduated from the IBS International Business School with a degree in MSS Marketing and Management. Then, since she loved to study and she wished to be closer to the world of fashion, Yeritsyan moved to Milan, where she graduated from the Instituto Marangoni with degrees in Fashion and Luxury Brand Management and Fashion Design. The designer is also a stylist and she works with women in many different fields to help them dress more attractively and appropriately for their field.

“As I was studying, I did a lot of research on the details of fashion and business. I learned more about fashion and the rules for creating luxury products. I began to work for different companies to gain experience and to become a professional in my work. I held many different positions when I worked for different brands in Milan. I had a long and difficult journey before I created my brand, Yerishi, which helped me to create high-quality and original products,” the designer said.

Yerishi is an abbreviation Yeritsyan came up with. It also has an interesting and somewhat mystical story, which the designer agreed to share in the future. Or, perhaps she will present this story in one of her future collections.

The designer took her first steps and created her brand in 2015. The purses are produced in Milan using high-quality products. Yeritsyan spent two years planning the purses in great detail, putting a lot of love into her work. Every collection has its own unique meaning and purpose. The first collection is called Eostre, which means ‘new beginning.’ These purses were made from high-quality leather, and the inside is made of high-quality and colorful velvet. Even the metallic details on the purses were produced specifically for the Yerishi brand, which emphasizes the uniqueness of the brand even further. Eostre is an elegant collection and a combination of unusual and interesting. It contains energy that signifies the personality of the woman. The designer wishes for women to come out of their comfort zones and wear unusual colors, which will further emphasize the fact that women are original and unrepeatable.

“Since purses are an indivisible part of a woman’s day, I created purses that will be in sync with the inner worlds of women. I created these purses with great respect for the image of the woman since I placed a lot of love and positive emotions into their creation, as well as placing a lot of importance on quality. By the way, I must mention that it is not easy to make purses that will satisfy the demands of all women while at the same time remaining in style, classic, comfortable, and unique. Creating purses for women is an art that demands attention since women are unique. We need to be able to understand them correctly,” the designer said. She intends to expand the Yerishi brand by creating a new collection of purses that will also include shoes and a men’s collection.

Exhibitions are expected to take place in Milan and in other European countries that Yerishi will take part in and present its purses to multi-brand stores.

Second wave of Armenian massacres in Baku in 1918

 11:51,

YEREVAN, JANUARY 15, ARMENPRESS. In September 1918, 23 thousand Armenians fell victim of thoroughly planned pogroms against the ethnic Armenian population of Baku. Stores, houses and oil factories owned by Armenians were razed to ground or looted. The Armenian community of Baku suffered not only human but also financial losses. The pogroms started in mid-September when the city was seized by Turkish army and went on till November of the same year. There is incontrovertible evidence related to the pogroms kept in the archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Germany. The evidence includes records and reports of the German soldiers who, at the time, were in Baku or in other places adjacent to the city. The most detailed calculation of human losses of the Armenian population was conducted by Bakhshi Ishkhanyan who, at that period, was the head of the Statistical Commission of the Armenian National Council of Baku. Bakhshi Ishkhanyan presented the results of those surveys in his book “Great Horrors of the city of Baku: Statistical research of the events of September 1918”, weighing them up with other sources as well, which was published in 1919. As of September 1918 more than 100 000 Armenians, including refugees from different regions of Azerbaijan that escaped to Baku because of the Turkish offensive, were living in Baku. Although until the city’s surrender to Turkish forces in September, 1918, ⅓ of the Armenian population was able to evacuate the city by the sea, the majority of Armenians remained in their homes falling victim to Turkish-Tartar attacks.

From the research of the Statistical Commission under the Baku Armenian National Council. The list does not include the number of refugees from other regions and labor migrants, who had no relatives in Baku. Armenian pogroms were deliberate in nature and coordinated not only by the Turkish forces but also by the authorities of the newly-formed Azerbaijan Democratic Republic which then was settled in Elizavetpol (Gandzak, nowadays Gyanja). It is noteworthy that there was a secret order by the Minister of Interior Affairs of ADR, Behbud Khan-Jevanshir, addressed to the mayors of Nukhi, Shemakhi and Baku, stating: “It is necessary to knock the Armenians down and step over their bodies in order to achieve our goals. Do not feel sorry for anyone and follow the orders given to you”. According to the reports of the Statistical Commission presided by Bakhshi Ishkhanyan in just 3 days approximately 9 thousand people were murdered. The death toll consists of 5248 names to which were also added the numbers of the victims among Armenian refugees from Shemakhi and Goycha. The committee also took into consideration the fact that there were many Armenian workers in the city’s oil factories who, unfortunately, had no relatives left in the city to clarify their fate.

  • Murdered during the pogroms of 15-17 September (only according to the death toll) – 5248 ○ Men – 3763 ○ Women – 1485 ○ Children aged 1-15 ● Missing – 3572 ○ Of which 3215 were killed (according to the surveys) ● Prisoners – 4246 ○ Of which 2972 were killed in the result of slave labour ● Killed in 3 months – 8139 (of illnesses and epidemics – includes the number of refugees leaving for Persia, South Caucasus and Central Asia)

According to the surveys and reports, the number of people who were killed or died during the pogroms as well as afterwards, as a result of the pogroms, in the period of Baku’s Turkish-Azerbaijani governance up to the entry of British forces, and also considering the number of missing people and dead in captivity from hard labor, and Armenians who lost their lives because of diseases and epidemics as a result of deportation from the city, brings the total number of victims to 23 314 people. During that time, the Chief of Staff of the Turkish Army’s East group, German Lt. Colonel Paraken noted in a report dated 26.09.1918 to Lt. General Von Seeckt: “Atrocities generally happened inside the houses. That’s the reason why there were comparatively less corpses in the streets. In general, they [the corpses], were at the corners thus we often could feel them in smell. I saw 7 corpses piled together, among them children as well…Almost all of the corpses were covered with bruises. The basements had putrid smell… At the presence of other witnesses a German told me that together with the Nuri Pasha’s adjutant they had entered a home where 13 Georgians were indiscriminately killed. When he drew the attention on the fact that the victims are Georgian, i.e. people under the auspices of Germans, the adjutant of Nuri shrugged and said: “They were simply mistaken for Armenians”. These genocidal acts against Armenians were left unpunished which naturally led to their repetition in the late 80's, when a heinous crime against the Armenian community was committed in Baku again, for the third time in the history of the city.
