of the board of the National Academy of Sciences and the heads of a
number of research centers of Armenia.

The press service of the President reports that Sargsyan pointed out
three top priorities in the field of science and education: "First,
we should reorganize our training and research centers so as to make
them more efficient. Second, we should create training and research
institutions of a new type, like the modern foreign language boarding
school in Tavush. Third, we should provide our students and young
scientists with training and probation opportunities abroad. For this
purpose we will redouble the funds of Luys Foundation."

The President expressed commitment to provide serious investments
for solving the housing problems of young researchers, especially,
those who are planning to engage in serious research activity.

foreign researchers, to publish scientific materials in foreign
languages and in electronic format.

The Armenian academicians welcomed the President’s efforts to improve
Armenian-Turkish relations. Both sides expressed hope that the contacts

The Azeri call the U.S a gangster

The anti-American hysteria of Azerbaijan continues. Even more they not
only criticize but also offend and threaten the United States.
Zardusht Alizede, for instance, who is a so called political
scientist, mentioned in the interview given to the news1.az that `The
US behaves itself like a gangster.’ It’s a very direct accusation, and
it’s not for the first time that Azerbaijan is giving such kind of
assessment. The most amazing thing is that the Azerbaijani still show
an exceptional tolerance. However the above mentioned `political
scientist’ does not limit himself by this. He also says that `the US
behaves itself superciliously with small countries, but in that way
they can never get a reputation in the world.’

After those accusations they start to threaten, by saying if
Azerbaijan recognizes the Armenian Genocide then it will first of all
harm itself and will confront itself to the Turkish world which
includes 200 million people. It is a typical terrorist formation, and
the fact that Azerbaijan is closely cooperating with big terrorist
groupings have been proved for many times, by the US special services
as well.

The anti-American campaign was continued today also by the deputy of
the Parliament of Azerbaijan Adil Aliev. This man has for the first
time confessed that `Because of the unilateral approach of the US in
the issue of normalization process of the NKR conflict the US `
Azerbaijan relations have been restricted. It took place because of
the careless and unilateral treatment Washington, especially Barak
Obama’s new administration;’ according to the deputy `the US is
getting far form the functions of the Minsk group co-chair.’

BAKU: Barack Obama did not use the phrase `Armenian genocide’

Barack Obama did not use the phrase `Armenian genocide’

[ 24 Apr 2010 20:58 ]
Baku-APA. The US president Barack Obama in a speech about the events
allegedly occurred in 1915 in Ottomanian Turkey, as in the past year,
called them "great catastrophe", APA reports quoting cnnturk.com
web-page.

It should be noted that prior to being elected as the president,
Barrack Obama promised to use the term "genocide". But taking into
consideration Turkey’s importance and role, he like his predecessors
yielded up this thought during his speech on April 24, 2009

On March of the current year the House of Representatives Foreign
Affairs Committee passed the resolution, by a vote of 23 to 22, on
made-up `genocide of Armenians’. In turn, during his visit to the USA,
early in this month, Turkish Premier Recep Tayyip Erdogan declared
that Barrack Obama would not use the term "genocide".

We remind, Armenians call "genocide" Ottoman’s government policy on
resettlement of the Armenian population for the safety purposes in the
internal areas of the empire in 1915, and they declare destruction of
Armenians. The Turkish government repeatedly suggests to set up the
joint Turkish-Armenian commission for investigation of those events,
but the Armenian side turns it down.

The parliaments of some countries recognized the made-up `genocide of
Armenians’ due to the political reasons. But, no country could present
any historical document or fact about these events. Turkey has opened
its archives, but Armenia has refused it.

Today, the claims of Armenia and the Armenian diaspora on made-up
"genocide" is used by the political world as the means of influence on
Turkey.

Obama again fails to call Armenian mass killings ‘genocide’

WASHINGTON, April 25 (RIA Novosti)

U.S. President Barack Obama again did not use the word "genocide" in
his statement to mark the 95th anniversary of the mass killings in
Armenia, leaving both Turks and Armenians dissatisfied.

Instead, he described the tragedy as a "devastating chapter in the
history of the Armenian people," and urged to "keep its memory alive
in honor of those who were murdered and so that we do not repeat the
grave mistakes of the past."

"I have consistently stated my own view of what occurred in 1915, and
my view of that history has not changed. It is in all of our interest
to see the achievement of a full, frank and just acknowledgment of the
facts," he said in a statement, published on the White House website.

He called on the two countries to repair diplomatic ties, which were
severed, among other things, over differing positions on the massacre,
which Ankara denies was an act of genocide.

After the Turkish genocide in Armenia was first recognized by Uruguay
in 1965, many countries followed suit, including Russia. It was also
recognized in 42 U.S. states, by the Vatican and the European
Parliament.

Obama repeatedly promised during his election campaign to recognize
genocide of Armenians. Yet for a second year as president, he refused
to do so and activists from both sides were quick to express their
disappointment.

The Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA) said the U.S.
president made "yet another disgraceful capitulation to Turkey’s
threats… offering euphemisms and evasive terminology to characterize
this crime against humanity."

"President Obama faced a stark choice: to honor his conscience and
commitment to recognize the Armenian Genocide or to remain an
accomplice to Turkey’s denial of truth and justice for this crime,"
ANCA Chairman Ken Hachikian said in a statement.

"Sadly, for the U.S. and worldwide efforts to end the cycle of
genocide, he made the wrong choice, allowing Turkey to tighten its
gag-rule on American genocide policy," he added.

Turkish groups in the U.S. have also been quick with a reply,
reproaching the president for failing to mention "the equally tragic
loss of even more Muslim lives in this turbulent period."

"Where does the ethnic cleansing of Ottoman Turks from the Balkans,
Eastern Turkey and the Caucuses with 5 million lost and 5.5 million
refugees come on the President’s list of "worst atrocities of the 20th
century"? Do they also deserve at least an annual presidential
remembrance from him, as he dutifully makes on this occasion every
year?" the Turkish Coalition of America said in a statement.

The organization called on to recognize these "not to diminish
Armenian suffering, but to respect all human loss… and to place the
Armenian tragedy in its proper historical context."

The Kardashian sisters recently sparked controversy over their
decision to host a lavish party on a highly sacred day in the Armenian
culture. April 24 marks the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. It
also happens to the be the same day that Kim and Khloe Kardashian will
be hosting a birthday party for their older sister Kourtney.

Kim and Khloe have both taken action in defending their decision to
celebrate on this somber day. As the reality sisters prepare to live
it up in Las Vegas this weekend, they have also decided to pay tribute
to their family heritage by dedicating their new Armenian-inspired
jewelry line to the families of the Genocide victims.

Prior to the launch of the Virgin Saints and Angels jewelry line, Kim
posted a dedication on her website. "Kourtney, Khloe and I will be
celebrating the launch of our jewelry collection for Virgins Saints
and Angels at Nordstrom at Fashion Island in Newport tomorrow! We all
agreed that with April 24 being the anniversary of the Armenian
Genocide, we wanted to do something special on that day to honor those
that died… and we hope that by celebrating this beautiful collection
that was inspired by our Armenian heritage, we are doing just that."

In an attempt to bring attention to such a serious issue in her
family’s culture, Kim made a special tribute. "This collection is
dedicated to everyone who lost their lives."

This topic is clearly very personal to millions of people. After
originally posting an article on Kourtney’s controversial party
yesterday, numerous readers posted their opinions about the Kardashian
sisters and the topic of the Armenian Genocide. Please continue to
leave your comments about this topic.

Armenia -Turkey: Football Diplomacy Over

ARMENIA -TURKEY: FOOTBALL DIPLOMACY OVER

April 23 2010

Armenia has decided to continue normalizing relations with Turkey. It
is only suspending the procedure of ratification of the protocols
with its neighbour, Armenia’s President Serj Sargsyan said in his
televised address to the nation.

As you might remember, the relations between the two countries remained
seriously strained till recently, among other things, because of
Ankara’s support of the Azeri stand on Nagorny Karabakh and also
because of Turkey’s strong reaction to the international recognition
of the genocide of the Armenians in the Ottoman Empire in 1915.

The relations between Armenia and Turkey improved somewhat only 2
years ago, after the Armenian President Serj Sargsyan invited the
President of Turkey Abdullah Gul to Yerevan to attend the match of the
two countries’ national football teams. And one year later Armenia and
Turkey, through the mediation of Switzerland, agreed a gradual plan
for the normalization of bilateral relations and signed protocols to
the effect at the University of Zurich.

Following the signing, these protocols should be approved by the two
countries’ parliaments. However, in recent times the Turkish side has
made the ratification dependent on the settlement of the Karabakh
conflict by means of returning the Armenian-speaking enclave of
Nagorny Karabakh under Azerbaijan’s jurisdiction. This forced Serj
Sargsyan, after consultations with the parties, making part of the
ruling coalition, to say that the current stage of the normalization
process, which started with a football match of the two countries’
national teams, is over for Armenia.

Commenting on this step of Yerevan, the leading scholar of the Caucasus
Department at the Institute of the CIS Countries Felix Stanevsky
said. What has been done by the Armenian leadership simply means that
the Armenian side mentions once again that the ratification of the
protocols by the Turkish side should continue as fast as it was till
recently. This is what we determine as the outer sense. And the inner
sense is this: there’s a rather strong resistance in Armenia to both
the ratification of the protocols and the settlement of relations
with Turkey.

Thus, the ruling majority in Armenia is sending a signal to the
opposition at home that it has no plans to yield to Turkey in
whatever it might be. And that the Armenian leadership plans to make
no concessions to Turkey, except the ones which were stipulated by
the protocols.

At the same time, Yerevan makes it clear that it does not want to halt
the negotiating process. A new boost will be given to it on condition
that a relevant atmosphere is created in Turkey. Armenia’s President
Serj Sargsyan says that his country will consider the possibility of
advancing the normalization process with Turkey as soon as it makes
certain that there’re leaders in Ankara ready to work for this.

23.04.2010 17:20

"Yesterday’s address by President Serzh Sargsyan was a signal to
the international community that Armenia stands for establishment of
relations with Turkey without preconditions. However, the same cannot
be said about the neighbour country," Spokesman for the Republican
Party of Armenia Edward Sharmazanov told a press conference today.

According to him, the reactions from the United States and France
prove that Armenia’s position is stronger today.

"President Sargsyan confirmed Armenia’s commitment to normalize
relations without preconditions, announcing suspension, but not
termination of the ratification process. Armenia didn’t withdraw its
signature from Protocols," Sharmazanov said.

As to Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process, he said that
the NKR status remains the core issue in talks. "Armenia will not
make unilateral concessions. Artsakh can’t be part of Azerbaijan,"
Sharmazanov said.
