Arsenal: This many people can’t be wrong about Henrikh Mkhitaryan

by Josh Sippie

Henrikh Mkhitaryan has some fluffy numbers since joining Arsenal, but some still doubt. Can so many people actually be wrong about him though?

Arsenal put a task on Henrikh Mkhitaryan when they signed him, and that task was to replace Alexis Sanchez. Given the falling out of the Chilean, it got progressively easier, but earlier in his North London career, such a thought would have seemed impossible.

Thus far, Mkhitaryan has replaced him to a tee. He has two goals and five assists in eight appearances and has showcased a defensive work-rate that’s to die for.

Yet there are still some doubters. People are out there saying that the numbers are masking what has been a fairly “adequate” landing with the Gunners. No doubt a hat trick of assists against Everton helped inflate the numbers, but I’m not basing my assessment of Mkhitaryan off of the goals and assists, which he has proven can come in ample quantity.

RELATED STORY: 5 Things Learned Against AC Milan

I am basing it off of what I’m seeing and what so many others are seeing too. Aside from the few naysayers, there has been so much praise for Mkhitaryan, but the two that have spoken most recently about him are Arsene Wenger and AC Milan manager Gennaro Gattuso.

Both have highlighted how he continues to improve and show just how special he is as a player and, to me, to have an opposing manager sing your praises after you had your way with them, that is something special.

Mkhitaryan’s numbers are great, but it’s the style of his play that I don’t think could fit any better into the void that Alexis left. Alexis was selfish, a ball-absorber who would forget that he had team mates and try to do everything himself. Although occasionally capable of doing it all himself, those times didn’t outweigh the chances he would miss.

Mkhitaryan possesses a lot of the same faculties as Alexis. He can go at it himself and has fantastic feet and a penchant for pestering the opposing goal. And yes, he can be loose at times, like Alexis.

But in the upgrade department, Mkhitaryan is a clean sweep from where we were to where we are now. He is a perpetually positive influence on the pitch who, even at his worst, will continue to push on and try new things.

Yes, he has been a bit untidy at times, but this comes as part of the territory of learning a new system. He is only going to get better, as Gattuso pointed out.

Yerevan /Mediamax/. Armenian Minister of Defense Vigen Sargsyan has spoken about the prospects of creating a research company in the Armenian Armed Forces.

In the interview with Razm.info the minister has said that “we have recorded a notable progress recently in several directions of the military industry”.

“The most positive fact I see in the military industry is involvement of young people. Every program has young scientists, people who come with great enthusiasm to build something new on the foundation of tradition and potential. I believe it can become the basis for a research company in the future, which will allow us to involve exclusively talented young scientists in military industry.

A lot has been said about possible limitation of young people’s entry into science due to abolition of the military service postponement. I stated that it would lead to exactly the contrary, as simultaneously, we would introduce mechanisms to allow young people to get more actively involved in science. We have a clear outline for the set of these mechanisms. It is in development and we do everything possible to have it installed by the summer draft,” said Sargsyan.

Vigen Sargsyan has also announced that “special attention will be paid to introduction of automated management systems and information technologies in the armed forces”.

“For that purpose we are forming the institute of Chief Information Officer (CIO) and their office, which will manage the digitization of the entire system: from providing military commissariats with more efficient tools for data processing to accounting, storage management, work with personnel and draft resources, etc,” said Vigen Sargsyan.

YEREVAN. – Israel is quite interested in participating in the establishment of a free economic zone in Armenia.

Ruling Republican Party of Armenia MP Gagik Melikyan, a member of the Armenia-Israel Parliamentary Friendship Group delegation that recently visited Israel, noted about the abovementioned at Friday’s press conference of the members of this friendship group.

In his words, considering Armenia’s membership in the Eurasian Economic Union—which comprises Armenia, Russia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan—, the Israeli side has made quite an intriguing and interesting statement.

“They want to participate in the process of creating a free economic zone in Armenia, and to start active economic activities at that zone,” Melikyan noted.

Dutch parliament recognises Armenian genocide
2018-02-16

The lower house of the Dutch parliament approved a motion on Friday to recognise the mass killings of Armenians during World War One as genocide, local English-language news website the NL Times said .

It also said a Dutch minister or state secretary should attend the annual commemoration of the genocide in Armenia in April, the site said.

The move is likely to anger Turkey, which denies the mass killing of Armenians in 1915 constitutes genocide.

"We can not deny history out of fear of sanctions. Our country houses the capital of international law after all, so we must not be afraid to do the right thing here too," the site quoted Joel Voordewind, a member of one of the governing coalition parties, as saying.

The Netherlands officially withdrew its ambassador from Turkey last week following the failure of negotiations for his return after the Dutch government refused to allow a Turkish minister to make a speech in favour of a presidential system to locally-based Turkish citizens last year.

Dutch Parliament recognizes Armenian genocide; Minister to attend commemoration

A majority in the Tweede Kamer, the lower house of Dutch parliament, approved two motions regarding the Armenian genocide of 1915 on Thursday. One states that the Tweede Kamer "recognizes the Armenian genocide", the other that a Dutch Minister or State Secretary should attend the commemoration of this genocide in Armenia in April. This decision is expected to further sour the relationship between Turkey and the Netherlands, ANP reports. Both motions were submitted by ChristenUnie parliamentarian Joel Voordewind. All four coalition parties supported the motions.

Azerbaijani press: German firms’ operation in Azerbaijan’s occupied lands unacceptable – minister

20:55 (UTC+04:00)

Baku, Azerbaijan, Feb. 13

By Azad Hasanli – Trend:

Operation of German companies in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan is unacceptable, Azerbaijani Economy Minister Shahin Mustafayev said.

He made the remarks on Feb. 13 at a meeting with a delegation led by Wolfgang Buechele, chairman of Germany’s Committee on Eastern European Economic Relations, Azerbaijan’s Economy Ministry said in a message.

Azerbaijan informed the German side about the companies that illegally operate in the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region.

In turn, Buechele noted that he will study this issue and will inform the Azerbaijani side about this.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding districts.
