“We have a broad agenda that we’ll try to cover during the next two days,” Andreasyan said, thanking Minister Bregadze and his delegation for visiting Armenia.

“During our first meeting, which took place in Italy during the European Council’s ministerial meeting, we raised a number of issues of concern for Armenia, because we are currently undergoing important reforms. The other important direction is the unified offices where the citizens of our countries receive all public services. Armenia has excellent lasting experience in this very sector and the practice of introducing the Justice Houses which Georgia has implemented is very important for us, because we are just starting the formation and development of the Justice Houses,” Andreasyan said.

In turn, the Georgian Minister of Justice thanked Andreasyan for the warm reception and said: “We agreed in Venice that we’ll actively cooperate and I am glad that we’ve already started the work. Currently Armenia and Georgia have very warm relations. I think there has never been this kind of relations. And this is certainly thanks to our prime ministers. Waltham resident, Armenian American veteran turns 100

WATERTOWN, Mass. — Harry Keshishian, a member of the Armenian American Veterans of Greater Boston (Amvets), has turned 100 years old.

The new centenarian, who was drafted to the US Army in October 1942 at the start of World War II, was the guest of honor at a small celebration hosted by Amvets at the Oakley Country Club on December 29, 2021.

“I said to myself, how long can this go on?” he chuckled, when asked what he wished for upon blowing out his candles. “I take it as it comes,” he sighed, referencing a well-known Yogi-ism: “When you come to a fork in the road, take it!”

Born on December 30, 1921 in the Bronx, Keshishian moved to Watertown, Massachusetts with his family at a very young age. He attended Watertown High School, where he fondly recalled building scale models of flyable airplanes with three close friends, who have since passed. He later attended Wentworth Institute of Technology, where he studied to become a machinist. During the war, he served in cities across the US, working hard at aircraft factories. He says he never experienced battle and was ultimately discharged in 1946.

In the years that followed, Keshishian worked with his father at a Boston-based photo engraving company. He raised three children with his wife Osnif, who he lovingly cared for during her long battle with multiple sclerosis. She passed away in 2007. That same year, Keshishian joined the local Amvets.

A self-proclaimed “fierce American,” Keshishan is an all-around history buff. “I love this country. There’s no other country like it,” he told the Weekly.

But his heart also beats for his homeland. Keshishian, who said his maternal grandfather was the prolific author and educator Tavit Khachgonts, was pained to witness from afar the tragedy of the 2020 Artsakh War. “It bothers me very much that Armenia is always suffering from these turmoils,” he expressed, “Being such a small country, there’s very little friendship around Armenia except maybe Russia. It seems no one pays attention to Armenia. I just hope that they can keep the peace because it’s so small and powerless that they can’t do very much.”

Keshishian, who now lives in Waltham, Massachusetts, says he values the friendships he’s built over the years. “When I reminisce, it’s strange how life starts and ends,” he shared, “It’s nowhere near what you’d expect. You just have to do the best you can.”

Opposition MP: Armenian authorities’ defeatist stance has made country a ‘weak link’ in region

panorama.am
Armenia – Jan 12 2022

Nikol Pashinyan is a “symbol of defeat” and his continued rule will lead to more and more defeats, MP Tigran Abrahamyan from Armenia’s opposition With Honor faction said on Wednesday.

His comments came after Azerbaijani forces freshly attacked Armenian combat positions in the eastern border area on Tuesday, killing three Armenian servicemen and wounding two others.

"The situation along Armenia's eastern border and the likelihood of its possible expansion will be clarified if it becomes known what kind of preparatory work Azerbaijan is carrying out in different border areas, whether there is movement of troops or deployment of military equipment,” he wrote on Facebook.

“This morning, the Armenian Defense Ministry confirmed the death of our third serviceman, also reporting two wounded. The Armenian authorities' defeatist stance and willingness to make concessions has made our country a weak link in the region. As a result, Armenia is always a victim even in issues that do not concern us.

“Nikol Pashinyan is a symbol of defeat and humiliation, and his stay in the current status will bring more and more defeats,” Abrahamyan said.

 23:38,

YEREVAN, JANUARY 11, ARMENPRESS. Armenia’s foreign ministry has issued a statement, condemning the gross violation of the ceasefire regime by the Azerbaijani armed forces in the eastern direction of the border of the Republic of Armenia with the use of artillery and UAVs.

“We strongly condemn today’s (January 11) gross violation of the ceasefire regime by the Azerbaijani armed forces in the eastern direction of the border of the Republic of Armenia with the use of artillery and UAVs, as a result of which servicemen of the armed forces of Armenia Arthur Mkhitaryan and Rudik Gharibyan were fatally wounded and two servicemen were injured. We extend our deepest condolences to the families and relatives of the killed servicemen and wish a speedy recovery to the wounded.

The provocative actions of the Azerbaijani armed forces are another manifestation of the continuous encroachments of Azerbaijan on the territorial integrity of Armenia, which have started since May 12, 2021, with the infiltration into the sovereign territory of the Republic of Armenia and continued with recurrent armed attacks.

The Republic of Armenia draws the attention of international community to the fact that official Baku, continuing its encroachments on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Armenia, violates the basic principles of international law, including the UN Charter, and undermines regional security.

The Armenian side has repeatedly stated that one of the ways to avoid further escalation of the situation may be the mirrored withdrawal of troops from the Armenian-Azerbaijani border and introduction of an international monitoring mechanism along the border.

We call on the Azerbaijani authorities to refrain from provocative actions and implement their commitment on establishing stability in the region undertaken as a result of the Brussels meeting and with the Trilateral Statement of Sochi”, the statement says.

Armenia President rejects Karabakh conflict is religious war

PanArmenian, Armenia
Dec 24 2021

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian President Armen Sarkissian has strongly rejected suggestions that the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was not just a land dispute, but also a religious war between Christian-majority Armenia and Muslim-majority Azerbaijan.

“It was never a religious war,” Sarkissian said in an interview with Arab News. “Armenia has wonderful relations with a lot of states where Islam is a major religion, states where Islam is the only religion, or states that have Islam as their state religion”.

“The other side (Azerbaijan and Turkey – Ed.) sometimes like to use that (the “religious war” description – Ed.) in order to accumulate support from Islamic world, but Armenia never tried to get support from Christian states.”

He also said Armenia is not a religious state and already enjoys “excellent relations” with Arab countries as well as Iran, which “didn’t take the path of destroying Armenian heritage or churches —in fact the government financed the restoration of Armenian churches in Iran.”
