"Unusual Beast" Of Debed River Turns Out To Be Ordinary Otter

"UNUSUAL BEAST" OF DEBED RIVER TURNS OUT TO BE ORDINARY OTTER

Aug 19, 2009

YEREVAN, AUGUST 19, NOYAN TAPAN. The "unusual beast-mutant"
of the Debed River was an otter, Director of the World Wildlife
Fund (WWF) Armenia Office Karen Manvelian said during a talk with
representatives of EcoLur NGO. He denied the local mass media reports
that a beast-mutant allegedly emerged in the river. According to him,
the description of the beast by the witnesses resembles the description
of otters whose burrows are on the river bank.

Otters eat fish and can swim. "No wonder that the people who saw the
otter took this animal for a mutant. We have become disaccustomed to
unexplored nature and stopped recognizing animals that used to live
in our rivers and whose number is gradually declining," K. Manvelian
said. He underlined that otters are not aggressive animals. "Like any
other animal, the otter defends itself when people try to catch him,"
Director of WWF Armenia said, adding that the otter as an endangered
species is included in the Red Book of Armenia and the International
Red List.

Three men were indicted Friday on federal kidnapping charges that
they held a Van Nuys man for ransom for five days in an Eastvale
house with a sophisticated marijuana growing operation.

Galvin Shaun Gibson, 30, of Eastvale, Vagan Adzhemyan, 41, of Costa
Mesa, and Suren Garibyan, 32, of North Hollywood were each arrested
last week after Los Angeles police stormed an Eastvale house on
Delaware River Drive where the victim was being held, according to
a U.S. Attorney’s indictment.

The three men were indicted on charges of conspiracy to commit
kidnapping and kidnapping by a federal grand jury. They face life
in federal prison if convicted. They are scheduled to be arraigned
Aug. 24.

Gibson was arrested by SWAT officers at the home. The unidentified
hostage was hospitalized for a week-old gunshot wound. Police also
found a marijuana growing operation capable of producing about $50,000
in profit every few months.

LAPD officers said the victim was taken from his apartment in Van
Nuys, shot with a Taser, shot in the intestine with a gun, tied up
and blindfolded. The victim was forced into a waiting van, according
to the indictment.

The Van Nuys man called his family in Russia, saying he had been
kidnapped and that his family had to pay $1 million for his release
by Aug. 4.

LAPD officers and FBI agents conducted surveillance of various
locations, including the Eastvale home where suspects were seen going
back and forth and the victim was held, according to the indictment.

On Aug. 3, Gibson and his three pit bulls kept watch over the
blindfolded victim in Eastvale while the other two men used the
victim’s bank card to withdraw money from his account, the indictment
stated.

Adzhemyan, who was found with an Armenian passport, and Garibyan were
arrested that night.

The victim suffered a serious infection from a ruptured intestine
and was last listed in critical condition. He was also found with
burn wounds that were untreated, according to the indictment.

The Site Of The RA Economy Ministry Is Harmful

THE SITE OF THE RA ECONOMY MINISTRY IS HARMFUL

Aysor.am

"There are Armenian sites which have been hacked since Friday and
have not been recovered yet. Particularly the site of the Ministry
of Economy has been hacked and has not been recovered. It is also the
problem of the National Security council that the governmental sites
are being hacked", – today said Stepan Aslanyan the director of the
"Smart Systems" company to the journalists.

He mentioned that there are 2 types of hacking, Defacement, when the
appearance of the site is changed, pages are added, and flags are put
on the page so that can be visible for all the users, and the Mauser,
which is much more dangerous, he says. In this case the viruses are
sent to the computer. The computer is being damaged invisibly, and
the results appear later.

Stepan Aslanyan said that the Economy Ministry site has been hacked
by the 2nd type of virus, the most dangerous one.

Anahit Khechoyan, the head of the information and public relation
department of RA Economy Ministry, answering the question of Aysor.am
said it is not known yet who has hacked the site but the Ministry too
has felt that the site is vulnerable and has decided not to prolong
the agreement of the operating company.

"We are going to open a new site. We hope that it will take short
time. The works are being done already. Simply at this moment the
tools do not allow the experts who work with us to correct it",
– said A. Khechoyan adding that maybe the experts of the previous
operating company could resume the site, but also because of the
financial problems another group has been chosen which at this moment
is not bale to recover the site.

She also informed that the Ministry has a new IT group, which promises
to make the internal and external net more powerful.

"The new site will operate as soon as possible, the design is chosen,
and the main tools exist too. The Ministry is newly formed, and we
have to make substantial changes too", – noted Khechoyan.

But till that time the computers of those who will use the site of
RA Economy Ministry will gain new viruses and new problems.
