PEACEFUL AGREEMENT ON KARABAKH POSSIBLE ONLY AFTER THREAT IS ELIMINATED

15.05.2009 14:11 GMT+04:00

/PanARMENIAN.Net/ Former Co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, Ambassador
Vladimir Kazimirov once again warned against resumption of hostilities
in the Nagorno Karabakh conflict zone.

"Resumption of military operations is inadmissible. But fancy that
a peaceful agreement is signed. Will it help? Will its provisions be
fulfilled"," he told a news conference in Yerevan.

Ambassador Kazimirov reminded that not all clauses of the agreement
signed in 1995 have been observed. For example, the agreement envisages
participation of Nagorno Karabakh as a full-fledged negotiating party.

"Armenia has numerously stated readiness for implementation of all
clauses of the agreement. However, no response has come from Azerbaijan
so far," he said.

"Azerbaijan is constantly accusing Armenia of violating the ceasefire
but never makes suggestions to reduce the number of incidents. So,
implementation of any peaceful agreement on Karabakh seems unbelievable
unless the threat of resumption of hostilities is eliminated,"
Ambassador Kazimirov said.

Baku’s Position Does Not Help Advance Nagorno-Karabakh Problem Settl

BAKU’S POSITION DOES NOT HELP ADVANCE NAGORNO-KARABAKH PROBLEM SETTLEMENT – ARMENIAN FOREIGN MINISTER

The settlement of the Nagorno- Karabakh conflict could be stepped up
if Azerbaijan abandons a destructive approach and stops anti-Armenian
propaganda, the Armenian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"If the leadership of Azerbaijan abandons destructive approaches
and stops militant and anti-Armenian propaganda, the negotiations
proceeding within the OSCE Minsk Group framework could bring the
parties’ positions closer to each other and help settle the problem,"
the statement quotes Armenian Foreign Minister Eduard Nalbandian
as saying.

The parties were quite close to settling the problem in 2001, "but
this did not happen because of Azerbaijan’s destructive approach and
rejection of agreements that had already been reached," he said.

"The Armenian foreign minister said Azerbaijan’s destructive approach
continued for months in the form of rejection of the Madrid proposals
put forward by the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs in 2007," it said.

Nalbandian also said "Nagorno-Karabakh people’s concern about their
security lay in the foundation of their legitimate right to self-
determination, in response to which Azerbaijan offered force and
ethnic cleansing and switched later to open and large scale aggression
against Nagorno-Karabakh, engaging mercenaries linked to terrorist
organizations in this," it said.

How Azerbaijan Is Trying To Steal The Cultural Monuments Of Armenia

HOW AZERBAIJAN IS TRYING TO STEAL THE CULTURAL MONUMENTS OF ARMENIA

Historian Samvle Karapetyan and public administration specialist
Hasmik Melikyan today presented the recurrent shocking statement of the
"scientific" circles of Azerbaijan. In his work titled "The Monuments
of Western Azerbaijan" published with the support of the Government
of Azerbaijan and signed by senior and junior Aliyevs, author Aziz
Alakbarl tells about Etchmiadzin, Khor Virap, the Temples of Hripsime,
Gandzasar, and even Garni.

If we, Armenians, have been naively considering up until today that
the above-mentioned monuments are masterpieces of Armenian culture,
the Azeri specialist presents those as monuments of Western Azerbaijan.

Azerbaijan’s propensity for consolidating itself as a nation through
historic and cultural distortions and the fleshes of "scientific"
mind are not a novelty any more, but Aziz Alakbarl’s work titled
"The Monuments of Western Azerbaijan" deserves serious attention
rather than grin and ignorance.

The book is not just the flash of mind of the author. Neither is it
the result of the collective work of a number of Azeri scholars. It
was issued with the sponsorship of the Government of Azerbaijan, with
welcome statements and signatures by Aliyev senior and Aliyev junior.

Therefore, it presents the state position of Az erbaijan. This book,
published in different languages in 2007, is being distributed in
respected international organizations and presented at exhibitions.
