The miniature of the Tatev Monastery Complex and the replica of a 15-16th century cross-stone kept in the museum area of the monastery complex were exhibited for the first time at the Museum of the Bible in Washington D.C. on March 7.

The exhibits were donated to the museum by Initiatives for Development of Armenia (IDeA) Foundation and Aurora Humanitarian Initiative ahead of the 10th anniversary of construction of Wings of Tatev aerial tramway and launch of Tatev Revival Project, IDeA Foundation reported.

Within Tatev Revival Project, Tatev Monastery Complex, one of the religious, cultural and enlightenment centres of Armenia in the 9th century is being reconstructed. Cultural heritage is one of the key directions of IDeA Foundation, which is evidenced by Foundation’s over 150 projects aimed at preservation and restoration of cultural heritage in Armenia and the Armenian World.

The donated works will become part of the permanent exhibition representing Tatev Monastery Complex at the Museum of the Bible in Washington D.C. They will also be showcased at a major exhibition “Breath of God”: Armenia and the Bible, which will be held from September 2021 through March 2022. The exhibition will be dedicated to Armenia as the first country to have adopted Christianity as an official religion.

“Tatev Monastery will have a central role in the “Breath of God”: Armenia and the Bible exhibition. We hope that guests are inspired to visit the historic and beautiful site of Tatev and the surrounding area. This exhibition will be the first fully Bible-focused major exhibition on Armenia, which will have a special emphasis on Armenian-Americans and the American Diaspora in relation to the Bible. It will also be the most technologically advanced major exhibition on Armenia to date, and it will include many artifacts never before shown outside of their country of holding,” says Dr. Jeffrey Kloha, Chief Curatorial Officer at Museum of the Bible.

The visitors will learn about the Armenian Bible, history of the Armenian Church, rituals and liturgy, Armenian language and alphabet, Armenian church art and cultural heritage, the Armenian Genocide, history of revival of Armenian national identity intertwined with the Bible.

The exhibition will also focus on one of the biblical topics – “Following the Flood: The Second Chance of the Humanity” and the story of Noah’s Arch on the biblical Mount Ararat. The latter is also the key idea underlying #AraratChallengе global movement of Aurora Humanitarian Initiative as a global symbol of salvation and revival. Like Armenian orphan children who survived the Armenian Genocide got the chance to start a new life, #AraratChallenge initiative calls on joining efforts to give a second chance to those who most need it now. The exhibition to be held in Washington will present to Armenians, the world and whole humanity the symbol of the second chance.

Ryanair says not cancelling Armenia flights but passengers receive emails

PanArmenian,  Armenia
March 3 2020

PanARMENIAN.NetRyanair's flights from the Armenian capital of Yerevan to Italy's Milan and Rome will continue as scheduled, the carrier said in a Facebook post.

The carrier said they have notified passengers that the short haul flight program (mainly to and from Italy) will be cut by up to 25% for a 3 week period from March 17 to April 8, in response to the Covid-19 virus.

Armenian passengers, however, took to social media to report that they did receive emails from the company, notifying that their March-scheduled flights to Rome have been canceled.

The Ryanair website either allows no option to book flights on March 21, 28 and April 4 – dates that were previously open for booking.

The carrier explained in a press release that they have seen a significant drop in bookings over the late March/early April period, in response to the virus.

"There has also been a significant step up in passenger no-shows on flights, particularly from and within Italy," the airline said.

Azerbaijani oress: US Ambassador to OSCE: There has to be diplomatic solution to Nagorno-Karabakh conflict

BAKU, Azerbaijan, March 3

By Leman Zeynalova – Trend:

There has to be diplomatic solution to Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, US Ambassador to OSCE James Gilmore said during a special briefing, Trend reports citing the US State Department.

“Well, as you know, there is a process in place, a group that – a Minsk Group that is trying to find some answers and solutions into this. I have met with both the ambassadors from Azerbaijan and the ambassadors from Armenia, each of whom have talked to me about – separately about this conflict and how they see it in the big picture of both of their respective countries,” he said.

Gilmore noted that the United States has taken the position that there just simply is not going to be a military solution to this.

“So there has to be a diplomatic solution. The Minsk Group is represented by Russia, the United States, and France. I have met with them previously. I think we’ll meet with them again. But as long as they continue to be engaged in a diplomatic conversation, at least we’re not seeing a further shooting conflict there. And so our position is to keep it steady, to keep the sides talking, and to see if we can’t find a diplomatic solution, not a military one,” he added.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The 1994 ceasefire agreement was followed by peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on withdrawal of its armed forces from Nagorno Karabakh and the surrounding districts.

Media Advocate ‘concerned’ by Armenian Public TV’s work style

MediaMax, Armenia
March 6 2020
Society 12:15 06/03/2020 Armenia

From February 24 to March 4, 2020, the Public Television of Armenia, operating at the expense of taxpayers allocated 160 minutes 16 seconds of its air to the topic of the constitutional referendum, 19 minutes 45 seconds of which were allocated to the “No” campaign, 38 minutes 41 seconds to the “Yes” campaign and 101 minutes 50 seconds were neutral remarks. The Public TV also aired “Yes” and “No” campaign video clips of up to 1-minute duration each.

The Media Advocate initiative reports that the Public TV of Armenia conducted a hidden propaganda of the “Yes” headquarters. A publicly-funded television station has presented a report on the real authors of the “Yes” logo. The report was aired several times, for two consecutive days; on February 27 and 28. It is worth mentioning that no such report was aired for the “No” side of the campaign.

The initiative also said that Hayk Hovhannisyan, a member of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC), was the guest of the Public TV. In an interview, referring to the Constitutional Court, Hovhannisyan stated that it had made a wrong decision regarding the SJC. That is, no contrary opinion was presented. This is also a violation of professional ethics, and the fact of presenting such a unilateral interview in the period preceding the referendum, may also be viewed as “Yes” propaganda.

Media Advocate urges Public Television, operating at the expense of taxpayers, to maintain impartiality and to cover the campaign of referendum on amendments to the Armenian Constitution scheduled for April 5, in keeping with the principles of equality and professional ethics.

20 families deported from Azerbaijan received housing certificates

Arminfo. Armenia
March 4 2020

ArmInfo. On March 4, a ceremony was held in Yerevan to present housing certificates to 20 families deported from Azerbaijan. As the Minister of Territorial  Administration and Infrastructures of the Republic of Armenia Suren  Papikyan noted, the beneficiaries of the first stage of the program  are 112 families, the Government allocated 1.5 billion drams to solve  housing problems.

According to Papikyan, the beneficiaries of the program will receive  their certificates in stages, over the course of the current year.  The certificate is valid for one year: during this time, their owners  will have to resolve issues with the selection of suitable housing.  The Minister noted that the budget for 2020 provides for the  allocation of 2.1 billion drams for the next stage of the program,  and the number of beneficiaries involved in it will be 185.

To recall, from 1988 to 1992, pogroms of the Armenian population took  place in Azerbaijan. Pogroms took place in Sumgait, Baku and other  large cities of Azerbaijan with the Armenian population. As a result  of this ethnic cleansing by Azerbaijan, about 420,000 Armenian  families became refugees. From 2005 to 2008, a housing program for  refugees was organized in Armenia.

About 1000 certificates for the purchase of housing were issued,  however, only 700 certificates were implemented.

As Bagrat Badalyan, Deputy Minister of Territorial Administration and  Infrastructures of the Republic of Armenia previously noted, 895  families are registered, of which 641 are in Yerevan and 254 are in  the regions. Given the rather large amount of necessary financial  resources, refugee housing problems are envisaged to be solved in  stages.

Particular attention will be paid to the guests of the hotels of  Sebastia, Nairi and Interrimini, who are constantly under threat of  eviction from the owners of these hotels. The remaining families  receive housing in the subsequent stages in accordance with the  programs provided for by the state budget.

First case of coronavirus in Armenia, 32 placed in quarantine

JAM News
March 1 2020

The Minister of Health believes that the individual did not manage to infect anyone, advises not to panic and adhere to hygiene rules

On March 1, the first case of coronavirus infection was detected in Armenia in a 29-year-old Armenian citizen who arrived from Tehran.

Since February 23, after the appearance of the first case in Iran, Armenia closed the border with this country for two weeks in order to prevent the penetration of the virus.

But it was specifically stipulated that there would be no restrictions on the return of the citizens of Iran and Armenia to their homeland.

Special flights have been organized for Armenians in Iran, as the first infected arrived.

According to the Armenian Embassy in Tehran, over 360 people have returned from Iran to Armenia over the past few days.

The first to report the infection was Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan on the night of March 1 on his Facebook page. He wrote that the infected arrived from Tehran on February 28 with his wife.

Health Minister Arsen Torosyan later announced that the infected person is not undergoing treatment yet, because he does not have any symptoms of the virus and does not even have a temperature.

His wife tested negative for the coronavirus, but she may still be in the incubation period. 32 other people arriving home have been quarantined.

Torosyan says the infected individual did not travel around the city by taxi. From the airport, he arrived home in a car of his acquaintances who have already been placed in quarantine.

He was brought by ambulance from his house to the hospital, and the team of doctors who was in contact with him has also been placed in quarantine.

Arsen Torosyan believes that all necessary precautions have been taken and that there is no reason for panic.

In another precautionary measure, a yearly procession in honor of the victims of the tragic events of March 1, 2008 was cancelled: the date marks the brutal dispersal of a demonstration protesting the outcome of presidential elections, during which 10 people were killed.
