20:42,

YEREVAN, DECEMBER 25, ARMENPRESS. Acting Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan participated in the reception organized by the foreign ministry on the occasion of the New Year and Christmas holidays. As ARMENPRESS was informed from the official website of the Prime Minister of Armenia, the acting PM congratulated and conveyed warm wishes to the staff of the foreign ministry on the upcoming holidays.

“We can say that the foreign policy achievements of our country in 2018 were recorded inside the country, because, in fact, throughout the world a key change in the reputation of Armenia is taking place, and this change that started in May and reached the peak by the December 9 early parliamentary elections create firm basis for us to record serious achievements in foreign policy and diplomacy”, Pashinyan said, adding that this year Armenia recorded 2 key democratic victories, one of which was the non-violent, velvet, popular revolution that took place in April-May and that second was the parliamentary election, which, according to the assessment of international observers, was unprecedented in the history of Armenia, who also recorded that the election was in line with the democratic standards.

“Why is it so important to say particularly at the foreign ministry? Because unfortunately, during the past times the MFA, the diplomatic corps had to give explanations, find different formulations for a long time following the elections to avoid or minimize the negative impact on the country”, Pashinyan said, hoping that the accumulated energy will be spent on the real goals.

“I think for the upcoming period our key goal should be raising awareness of the nature of Nagorno Karabakh issue in international community, because unfortunately it’s not always and not everywhere that people have the proper information. This is an issue that is really a matter of national security. We must be confident that the international community understands the nature of Nagorno Karabakh issue the way it exists. Unfortunately, today we cannot record this everywhere and it’s necessary to seriously work in this direction”, he said.

Nikol Pashinyan emphasized the importance of using Armenia’s reputation for fostering investments, highlighting the role of the diplomatic corps in this mission.

Nikol Pashinyan reaffirmed that there can be no deviations from democracy in the future, and he democratic reforms will continue in 2019. “A real rule of law must be established in Armenia with an independent judicial system and the authorities of Armenia should pursue foreign policy based on legitimacy, as a Government authorized by the people presenting the interests of the people”, he said, adding that being authorized by the people gives great power, “I hope that in 2019 the people will feel the power of your activities, your professionalism, and skills like you today feel the power of having the mandate of the people”.

Nikol Pashinyan thanked for their diplomatic service and wished new achievements. A number of diplomats were awarded for their contribution to the proper organization of the 17th summit of Francophonie.

Suspension of Lydian Armenia company's activity results in low export volume: Khosrov Harutyunyan

Chairman of the NA’s economic affairs standing committee does not agree with the claims that it is necessary to stop mining activity as it is harmful and is not of great economic significance.

Speaking to Aysor.am, Harutyunyan stressed that it is necessary to work with all mining companies to understand how to make their activity safe.

Referring to the tough statements addressed to the activity of Lydian Armenia company, Harutyunyan said that to eliminate the concerns the government must forward clear demand and do everything to reduce the danger even for a percent.

“If someone asked me what to do in case of Lydian, I would say that if there is even one percent that your productive activity may negatively influence on the mine you should eliminate this possibility. What additional investments are necessary for reducing the ecological impacts, for cleaning stations? Ensure it all and we, instead, grant you with additional privileges. It would be beneficial for both parties,” Harutyunyan said, noting that such cooperation gives opportunity to have serious infrastructures and form big trust among the investors.

“Lydian is a big company, it is necessary to speak with them, to ask their opinion. Such method would have shown to potential investors that the authorities are open for dialogue,” he said.

Harutyunyan stressed that it is necessary to have examples of successful investments and cooperation to attract investors.

He also stressed that tough attitude toward Lydian and other companies as well as closing roads by activists fighting against mine exploitation harm the economy.

“During the eleven months the export volumes have gone down. If Lydian Armenia worked such figure would not have been registered,” he said.

ARKA, Armenia
Dec 26 2018

YEREVAN, December 26 /ARKA/. The US Embassy in Armenia provided today additional information regarding passport and visa services.

"At this time, scheduled passport and visas services in the United States and at U.S. Embassies and Consulates overseas will continue during the lapse in appropriations as the situation permits. We will not update this account until full operations resume, with the exception of urgent safety and security information.  For information on our services and operating status, visit travel.state.gov.,’ the embassy said in a Facebook post.

Earlier reports said the US government was forced to suspend its operations from December 22 (at least for a month), after the Congress failed to adopt the draft budget for 2019. The reason is the demand of President Donald Trump to include in it  the cost of building a wall along the border with Mexico worth about $ 5.7 billion, opposed by Democrats. –0–
