The statement made by PAP candidate Naira Zohrabyan voiced during campaign is peculiar to “old Armenia” and has nothing to do in the “new Armenia”, acting Prime Minister, leader of My Step bloc Nikol Pashinyan said today in Abovian.

Zohrabyan called on people to give Gagik Tsarukyn an opportunity with their votes to continue making investments in Armenia.

“This statement does not reflect political and economic situation existing today in Armenia. In our vision votes and investments have nothing to do with each other,” he said, adding that if people are not MPs in parliament it does not mean they do not make investments.

“Ties between votes and investments existed in old Armenia when the 90% of parliament consisted of businessmen,” he said.

Pashinyan said that his government guarantees security of all investments irrespective of political views of investors.

“I thinks it is even not correct to ask votes for investments. We guarantee safety of investments of all, including the ones made by Gagik Tsarukyan,” Pashinyan stressed.

“ 95% of businessmen have not been nominated, does it mean they will not make investments?” Pashinyan stressed, adding that the businessmen must be free of political commitments.

CNN, the New York Times and Time magazine are among the dozens of news organisations worldwide covering the progress of an Armenian family living in a Dutch church to avoid deportation.

Church officials have organised round-the-clock services at the Bethel church in The Hague so that police officers cannot enter and pick up the Tamrazyan family, who were told in September that they would be sent back to Armenia.

The continuous service began on October 26 and has now been going for over a month, attracting worshippers and pastors from all over the country. ‘I have lost count of the number of sermons about the Good Samaritan that have been delivered,’ pastor Axel Wicke said.

The church has no plans to stop its campaign, even though junior immigration minister Mark Harbers has refused to use his powers of discretion to allow the family to stay.

‘We evaluate regularly, with the team and also with the family,’ Wicke said on Twitter.

‘So far, we still receive massive support and can fill the rota pretty well. So we keep going, also because there still are many talks going on with politicians behind the curtains, some of which give reason to hope.’

Nine years

The family lived at a refugee centre in Katwijk before moving into the church. Oldest daughter Hayarpi, who studies econometrics at Tilburg University, her sister, brother and parents have been in the Netherlands for nine years.

Hayarpi  said in a Twitter message in September that her family was granted refugee status at three separate court hearings but that the Dutch state went to appeal each time. They were eventually rejected three years ago.

This case is particularly embarrassing for the coalition government because Hayarpi is an active member of ChristenUnie, which campaigned for changes in the child amnesty rules before becoming part of the coalition government.

The information about Azerbaijan provided by the Alice voice assistant of Russia-owned Yandex search engine has caused a scandal in the country.

In a video released recently on social networks, the voice assistant, answering the question, “Who are Azerbaijanis?”, says: “Azerbaijan is a country artificially created on the lands of Armenians, Persians, Lezgins and Georgians. That state was created for the ultimate destruction of Armenians. The Azerbaijanis, as a nation, only appeared in 1936. Before that, they were called Transcaucasian Tatars.”

The voice assistant has reportedly conveyed the most popular information on the Internet based on the main publications of the Yandex search engine.

The head of the Azerbaijani community in Moscow, Shamil Tagiyev has addressed a video message to Yandex over the matter.

According to Azerbaijani media, the information has been removed from the search engine, with the voice assistant calling on its users to find the answer of the question from Azerbaijan’s Wikipedia account.

The interest rates on agricultural loans should be reduced to 1 to 2 percent.

Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP) Chairman—and tycoon MP—Gagik Tsarukyan, who heads the PAP electoral list in the forthcoming snap parliamentary election, on Friday stated the aforesaid in Yeghegnadzor town, and within the framework of their campaign rallies for this vote.

In his words, considering the socioeconomic situation in the country, it is very insufficient that bank loan interest rates have now been reduced to between 8 and 12 percent.

Tsarukyan stressed that one should not close down workplaces during economic crises, but rather should assist small and medium-sized businesses so that people will not have to emigrate.

And reflecting on health care in Armenia, the PAP leader highlighted that free-of-charge hospitals should operate in the country, and the portion of state-funded medical treatment should be increased, or a respective voucher system should be introduced in the country.

Also, Gagik Tsarukyan is convinced that the Armenian people have long resolved the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict.

“It remains only [for the Republic of Artsakh] to have international recognition,” he added, in particular. “And for that, we need to have a strong state.”

Armenian-Russian relations need special care: Robert Kocharyan

Direct or indirect calls to review traditional for Armenia geopolitical priorities during this not calm period are really dangerous even if not brought to reality, Armenia’s second president Robert Kocharyan said at the Lazarev Club plenary session today in Yerevan.

“The Armenian-Russian relations need special care. IT and social networks create big opportunities for manipulating public moods, sow doubts and distrust among the people which will result in the erosion of our decades-long ties,” Kocharyan said.

He stressed that each friendship demands efforts, time, energy and emotions.

“Friendship has inertia but it cannot develop and be stable on its basis only. Friendship stops when concerns about the sincerity appear and when one of the parties want to get more than give. It is very difficult to be friend with constant beggars. Such relations are irritating,” Kocharyan said.

He stressed that friendly relations between countries is not just coincidence of interests it is a fusion of state interests and deep penetration of human factor in the relations of societies.

“I cannot find any other example of such relations like in case of Armenia and Russia. We have inherited them and we must exert efforts every day to maintain and develop them,” Kocharyan stated.

Dutch church holds 800-hour service to save Armenian family

THE HAGUE, Netherlands – A Dutch church is holding an around-the-clock service that has lasted more than 800 hours, to shield an Armenian family from deportation. Under Dutch law, police officers are not permitted to enter a church while a religious service is taking place.

To prevent the Tamrazyan family from being removed from the country, hundreds of pastors and volunteers have been meeting to maintain the 24/7 service. The service has been ongoing for more than a month.

Theo Hettema, Chairman of the General Council of Protestant Ministers in the Netherlands told CNN, "We are severely, severely convinced that hope can change society, and hope can change politics. How long that will take, we don't know but we leave that to God, we pray. Yeah, we have this service here. We have some 450 pastors who are leading part of the service, an hour or more going on. And that's so much faith and love and hope. It must affect something I am sure about that."

The idea for the nonstop service was hatched in secret to protect the safety of the family until they were able to be moved into the church building. That was on October 26. The family's only hope now is for the government to intervene in the case and allow them to stay.

In a statement to CNN, a spokesman for the Dutch minister for migration Mark Harbour said, "The minister for migration has the power to decide cases involving specific exceptional and urgent circumstances." However, he added that "factors such as a long period of residents in the Netherlands and enrollment in education in the Netherlands are not sufficiently exceptional circumstances."

Despite that, church leaders say they are having behind-the-scenes talks with the government about the case and are hopeful of a resolution. But until the family is allowed to stay, they say the church service will continue, as Hettema said, "as long as it's necessary."

Zakharova: Azerbaijani complaints over Artsakh president’s Moscow visit ‘groundless’

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova has commented on the recent visit of Artsakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan to Moscow during a weekly briefing broadcast by RT.

She stressed that Sahakyan’s visit does not constitute a violation of the Russian law.

“That visit cannot be viewed other than a private one. The status of the visit is obvious. And it doesn’t contradict the Russian legislation in the very context of a private visit which has nothing to do with the international agreements or the Russian mediation mission in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict settlement,” the top official said, commenting on an Azerbaijani reporter’s observation.

“The Azerbaijani side’s complaints addressed to Russia are groundless,” she said.

President Sahakyan visited Moscow on 24 November.

The Azerbaijan Foreign Ministry released a statement on 25 November claiming that issuing an entry permit to Russia for Bako Sahakyan ‘is undermining the Karabakh conflict settlement efforts and Russia’s mediation mission.’

Sasna Tsrer party: Armenia, Karabakh political systems should not be separate Sasna Tsrer party: Armenia, Karabakh political systems should not be separate

YEREVAN. – The provincial visits within the framework of the election campaign show there are major foundations that the Sasna Tsrer party will to go to parliament.

Political scientist Stepan Grigoryan, who is second on this political force’s electoral list for the upcoming snap National Assembly (NA) election in Armenia, stated the aforementioned at a press conference on Friday.

Reflecting on the Sasna Tsrer party platform’s provision on joining Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) to Armenia, Grigoryan said this process can be carried out in phases.

“Azerbaijan’s position [with respect to resolving the Karabakh conflict] is getting more rigid,” he added. “Armenians live in Artsakh, not ‘Artsakhtsis.’”

As per the MP candidate, the political systems of Armenia and Karabakh should not be separate from each other.

“The political parties functioning in Artsakh need to find for themselves partner parties in Armenia, and to collaborate with Armenia’s political forces,” Stepan Grigoryan concluded.

Sasna Tsrer party official Varuzhan Avetisyan, political scientist Stepan Grigoryan, and party official Garegin Chugaszyan are the top three on the respective 174-name electoral list of this recently formed political force.

Campaign season for the upcoming snap NA election has gotten underway Monday in Armenia.

The campaign season will conclude on December 7, whereas December 8 is election silence day, and December 9—election day

Eleven political forces—two alliances and nine parties—are running for parliament.

As a result of this election, the NA seats will be distributed proportionally among the political forces that have passed the respective minimum thresholds: 5% for parties, and 7% for alliances.

Politicization of UNESCO platform by Azerbaijani side raises serious concerns: Armenian MFA

In 2017 UNESCO inscribed Kochari, traditional group dance, on the list of Intangible Culture Heritage at Armenia’s request. Few days ago the organization inscribed “Yalli (Kochari, Tenzere) traditional dances of Nakhichevan” on the list of Intangible Culture Heritage as well.

The decision was made at the 13th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage held in Mauritius. The application was presented by Azerbaijan.

Asked to clarify the situation MFA spokesperson Anna Naghdalyan said that the inscription of any element on the list of Intangible Culture Heritage does not suppose property right over this element by the applicant country.

“I want to stress that the inscription of each element on the list of Intangible Cultural Heritage does not suppose property right over that element. Its inscription means recognizing the existence of mentioned element’s cultural manifestations and its peculiarities in the applicant country,” she said.

According to the Azerbaijani application, there are about 60 types of Yalli in Nakhichevan and among them is Kochari.

“The issue though raises other concerns, and particularly Azerbaijan’s attempts to politicize UNESCO platform which already have had certain impact on the organization’s working style. UNESCO has been created to promote peace and people’s security by promoting cultural cooperation between the states,” she said, adding that as a result of such like politicization it becomes a platform which more deepens the issues.

“This circumstance should be rather alarming for all the members of the organization and UNESCO Director General as well,” she said.

“At the UNESCO events Armenia has many times voiced the reality and spoke about Azerbaijan’s ill approaches and the mentioned session was not exclusion,” she said.

Top Russian official: Karabakh conflict settlement stands in line

There is a certain pause in the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh (Artsakh) conflict, Konstantin Zatulin, First Deputy Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, told reporters in Yerevan before the launch of the Lazarev Club’s first plenary session.

“I don’t know how much this is justified, but I think that senior politicians assess the fact that elections are pending in Armenia. But the Karabakh conflict settlement stands in line,” the Russian official, stressing the conflict resolution can no way be delayed too long.

Reflecting on the Armenian-Russian ties, Zatulin stressed that no one questions the allied relations between the two countries.

“You know that the leaders of our countries hold regular meetings and exchange views. It’s clear that what happened in Armenia, which is referred to as a revolution in the country, affected not only the domestic but also the foreign agenda,” he said.

Zatulin highlighted the Armenian-Russian cooperation in the defense and security sectors.

Separately, the top Russian official said he cannot make any predictions on the possible developments over the CSTO secretary general.

“As you know, the leaders of the CSTO member states will meet on December 6. It’s hard to predict what will happen on 6 December. Following the norms of ethics, I would not like to add fuel to the fire by saying who it would or wouldn’t be appropriate to appoint to the post,” he said.

Zatulin says the developments over the CSTO chief is not a standard situation, since it is not envisaged by the organization’s Charter.
