A1+: Anastasia Galustyan to be number 13 in European Championship

The 2019 European Figure Skating Championship will kick off today in Minsk, Belarus.

Women’s competition will take place the first, where 36 figure skaters from 28 countries have applied for. 19-years-old Anastasia Galustyan is the representative of Armenia, and she will perform as a 13 number in the third qualifying round. His rivals will be Estonian, Dutch, Swiss, Polish and Norwegian skaters.

A1+: Anzhela Sahakyan as part of squad of 20 doping officers in European Games

Anzhela Sahakyan from Armenia is included 20 international doping officers serving the 2nd European sports games to be held in Minsk on June 18-30. The press service of the Armenian National Olympic Committee informs.

Anzhela Sahakyan is one of the experienced specialists at the Republican Center for Sports Medicine and Doping Service of the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs of the Republic of Armenia. He served in 2018 at the Winter Olympics in South Korea.

Armen Martirosyan does not leave country

According to the Vice President of Heritage party Susanna Muradyan, President of the party Armen Martirosyan did not leave the country.

“According to my data, he did not leave the country, but left for rest, as other citizens have the right. Leaving is one thing and going on vacation is another, but all of us have the right to it. According to my data, his family is here and he will return,” Muradyan said.

The municipality puts a soft pillow under our head – merchants (video)

For a few months, street traders have been protesting against City Hall’s decision to ban street trade. By traders, after the start of the new year, law enforcement officials are persecuting them and ban trading. A week ago, they met with the City Hall staff and decided to set up a team of 3 people who would keep in touch with the municipality and will try to find a solution within a 10-day period. Ten days have already passed, but the merchants’ issue has not been resolved. Today, they were in front of the government with the same demand.

“They put a soft pillow under our heads and say that they would have pavilions within 10 days, but they did not do anything. They do not want to us space in the places we offer. We have not been trading for 20 days, we have stayed without a penny,” says one of the merchants.

According to them, the products they have had are already damaged and are not suitable for sale.

“I bought a flower with 50,000 drams, but I poured it completely,” said another merchant.

The municipality offered to trade in the Charbakh market, but according to merchants, the area is uninhabited and the market is not functioning.

The merchants are concerned that the municipality is intentionally postponing the solution of the issue, so that people will find other ways of making money and will become calm about this issue.

Merchants mentioned that tomorrow they will come back to the government building again.

New investments to be made in Armenia (video)

Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan continues the meetings with the businessmen and investors of different countries on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Davos.

On the second day of the Forum Pashinyan met with Arne Sorenson, President and CEO at Marriott International, Inc, during which the opportunities to expand the company’s activities in Armenia were discussed. PM Pashinyan highly valued the company’s activity in Armenia and stated that the Marriott hotel is very popular in Armenia. The PM said the Armenian government is interested in developing and expanding the famous international hotel network in the country.

Arne Sorenson informed that currently they are discussing issues on implementing investment programs by the Marriott International and opening new hotel as a result. The company CEO attached importance to the Armenian government’s steps aimed at improving the business environment and expressed confidence that these activities will contribute to the effective implementation of the programs.

During the meeting with CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund Kirill Dmitriev, the Armenian PM noted that there are good opportunities and conditions for investments in Armenia after the recent changes. He said the government is ready to assist the ongoing programs of the Fund and discuss the possibilities for implementing new investment projects.

Kirill Dmitriev introduced Pashinyan on the process of ongoing programs in the fields of agriculture, industry and energy, adding that the Fund will continue the policy of implementing new programs in Armenia. He stated that given the new opportunities in Armenia, they are going to take actions to bring their international partners to Armenia.

The Armenian PM also met with the CEO of Corporation America Martin Eurnekian during which they discussed the upcoming investment programs in aviation and other sectors of Armenia. In particular, they touched upon the expected works in Yerevan’s Zvartnots, Gyumri’s Shirak airports, the future management and development of HayPost CJSC, as well as the plans related with the previous building of the Armenian foreign ministry located in the Republic Square.

Ararat Mirzoyan receives Piotr Switalski

On January 23, Speaker of Parliament of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan held a meeting with Head of the EU Delegation to Armenia, Ambassador Piotr Świtalski.

Speaker Mirzoyan thanked the Ambassador for his role in deepening the Armenia-EU cooperation and expressed readiness to contribute to the development and intensification of these relations.

Ararat Mirzoyan assured that the new Parliament is committed to implementing the initiatives and outlined programs and recording results.

Touching upon the ratification process of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA), Speaker Mirzoyan said it’s an important condition to boost the reforms in Armenia and the partnership with the EU based on the common value system. And the Speaker expected the Ambassador’s support on this matter.

Ararat Mirzoyan said the Armenian side attaches importance to the launch of dialogue with the EU on visa facilitation for the Armenian citizens. “I think this will be a great achievement and will reach the relations to a new level”, the Parliament Speaker said.

He expressed hope that the cooperation with the EU will be more intense in the fields of deepening democracy, human rights protection, cooperation with the civil society, raising the role of the Parliament and etc.

In his turn the EU Ambassador congratulated the Speaker on assuming office and highlighted the fact that he became the leader of the Parliament which has been formed based on the results of free, fair and transparent elections. Piotr Świtalski said the new Parliament has all opportunities for real parliamentarism in Armenia. He also valued the boosting of the inter-parliamentary ties and the role of the parliamentary diplomacy in developing the Armenia-EU relations. Ambassador Świtalski expressed readiness on behalf of the EU delegation to actively cooperate for the Parliament’s institutional capacity developments based on the needs assessed by the Parliament.

Vardan Petrosyan warns about vandalism

On January 31, citizen Vardan Petrosyan visited the town of Vayk and saw that the gravestone located in the city park was in bad condition.

“If this is not done even for an evil purpose, in any case there is a problem of very bad political issue here. This is a gravestone, it is not for only paying tribute to the victims of the Armenian war, but also to the victims of the genocide.”

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan held a telephone conversation with John Bolton, National Security Advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump, Pashinyan wrote on his Facebook page. 

“A while ago I had a telephone conversation with John Bolton, National Security Advisor to U.S. President Donald Trump. We discussed issues referring to regional situation and bilateral relations. We both emphasized the importance of Armenian-U.S. relations for our governments. We agreed to continue the discussions on the future development of our relations”, he wrote, adding that Artsakh issue was not discussed.
