The soprano Ruzan Mantashyan, ousted from the Dresden Opera Ball after the Azeri tenor Yusif Eyvazov allegedly refused to sing with an Armenian, was last night reinstated.

The Semper Opernball announced: The 30-year-old soprano, born in Yerevan, will sing Tatyana’s great aria from the opera Eugen Onegin by Peter Tchaikovsky in Dresden. ‘The Semper Opera Ball follows its general philosophy of speaking the language of art, bringing artists and cultural workers together and building bridges between nations, cultures and perspectives,’ said Hans-Joachim Frey, first Chairman of the Semper Opera Ball. ‘I am pleased that Ruzan Mantashyan has finally been able to accept a role in Dresden and that all other artists and colleagues who appear at the ball also support this. Mantashyan will be with the MDR Symphony Orchestra under the direction of Kristjan Järvi together with performers such as the tenor Yusif Eyvazov, the violinist Pavel Milyukov, the soprano Julia Muzychenko, the pianist Alexander Kashpurin etc.’

Ruzan writes: I was convinced that culture knows no borders and I’m glad this belief is shared by so many people who supported me with their words and deeds these past few days. I am pleased to inform my listeners that on February 7th, I will sing Tatiana’s aria at the Dresden Opera Ball.’

PanARMENIAN.Net – Armenian soprano Ruzan Mantashyan will perform at The Semper Opera Ball, a classical entertainment event in Dresden, Germany, after all.

The Armenian artist’s participation was in question following an international scandal involving Azerbaijani tenor Yusif Eyvazov who reportedly had the organizers of the event to force out Mantashyan with whom he was scheduled to perform.

Mantashyan was invited to sing at The Semper Opera Ball alongside an American tenor. However, as the latter dropped out in the process, the opera house replaced him with Eyvazov. After realizing Mantashyan’s ethnicity, the Azerbaijani tenor reportedly refused to perform.

The organizers of the event first rejected the accusations, claiming that at no time had there been a contract with Mantashyan.

Soprano Ruzan Mantashyan accepts offer to perform at SemperOpernball as Eyvazov’s sabotage fails

 17:15,

YEREVAN, JANUARY 24, ARMENPRESS. Armenian soprano Ruzan Mantashyan will eventually perform at the SemperOpernball February 7 theater concert in Dresden as scheduled initially.

“I was offered to perform at the concert. After lengthy deliberations I accepted the offer. That itself will be a victory”, Mantashyan told ARMENPRESS.

On January 13th, media reports said Azerbaijani singer Yusif Eyvazov has refused to perform with Mantashyan due to “political concerns”. The two singers were scheduled to perform together on February 7 at Semper Opernball.

Afterwards, the Azerbaijani singer claimed on his social media account that the reports are fake news. He published a news release by Semper Opernball which reportedly showed that the festival didn’t even have a contract with Mantashyan regarding her performance.

However, a December 2019 news release included Mantashyan in the list of performers and the final contract wasn’t technically yet signed because the negotiations weren’t yet completed. But organizers and Mantashyan had agreed around her performance.

The Armenian soprano then publicly said she expects an apology from the organizers.

Even Armenian lawmakers reacted to the developments, and addressed a letter to the German Bundestag over the Azerbaijani tenor's xenophobic actions.
