Kapan mayor: Armenia MOD says agreement on transfer of strategic territories was reached in advance

News.am, Armenia

Dec 25 2020

After the signing of the trilateral statement of 9 November, we have remained at our posts, and the adversary has remained at its posts. After the signing of the agreement, the adversary hasn’t shown aggression, and it seemed as though it was waiting for something. This is what Mayor of Kapan Gevorg Parsyan declared while presenting the current situation in the region during today’s working discussion hosted by the Prosperous Armenia faction of the National Assembly of Armenia.

Moreover, according to him, with regard to the transfer of Zangelan and Kubatlu, there is nothing mentioned in the agreement about the transfer of the occupied territories to the enemy.

“We are actively working with the Ministry of Defense of Armenia. I am certain that the army generals with whom we have interacted had no idea that Armenia had to transfer its positions to the enemy,” Parsyan emphasized.

According to the mayor of Kapan, during the meeting with the defense minister, he stated that there hadn’t been negotiations with Kapan, but an order had been given to transfer the positions occupied by the residents of Syunik Province.

“I told the minister that Syunik Province is against the transfer of those positions since it will create problems with ensuring security, but the minister said the agreement had been reached in advance,” Parsyan said.

Armenia PM: I'm inviting political forces to consultations over snap parliamentary elections in 2021

Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan has posted the following on his Facebook page:

“Dear people, compatriots,

Now it is already clear that the opposition’s demonstrations demanding the Prime Minister’s resignation weren’t supported by the people.

The opposition had all the opportunities to generate the people’s support since it had tremendous financial and media resources and had resources for organizing the demonstrations, had wide opportunities to organize rallies and protests, but not only did the opposition fail to ensure the people’s support, it also had a minimum number of supporters, and there are fewer demonstrations at the square.

Nobody can say that the authorities maintained power through brutality. On the contrary, the authorities are blamed for being soft.

However, this in no way changes my and our political team’s commitment to bearing responsibility before the people. I am not clung to the seat of Prime Minister, but I also can’t be negligent towards the power granted to me by the people.

The people need to determine the fate of the future political leadership of the country through _expression_ of free will, and I, as Prime Minister of Armenia, consider myself the guarantor of the _expression_ of that will.

I am also ready to leave the post of Prime Minister based on the people’s decision, but I can leave the post only upon the people’s decision.

I am ready to continue to serve as the leader of the Republic of Armenia in this difficult period, if the people reestablish their confidence in me.

There is only one way to receive the answers to all these questions, and that is the holding of snap parliamentary elections.

Based on the aforementioned, I am inviting parliamentary forces and interested extra-parliamentary forces to consultations over the holding of snap parliamentary elections in 2021.”

Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia demands Nikol Pashinyan's resignation

The Confederation of Trade Unions of Armenia has issued a statement demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

The statement particularly states the following:

“The political and socio-economic situation in Armenia attests to the fact that the foundations for sovereignty, democracy and a social and legal state proclaimed by the Constitution have been undermined.

The situation created in Armenia after the war unleashed by Azerbaijan and Turkey against the Republic of Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh Republic) on September 27, 2020 deepened the political and socio-economic crisis. The current issues are deemed to be the result of not only the pandemic and war, but also wrong and single-handed management.

The trilateral statement that was secretly signed on November 9 caused a deep crisis and a strictly tense atmosphere. The created situation led to severe and extremely difficult consequences for workers, especially socially disadvantaged workers. There are already cases of forced idleness and unpaid leaves.

This situation attests to the fact that further deepening of these issues is inevitable in case the incumbent Prime Minister and his Cabinet remain in office.

Due to the current situation and taking into consideration the aforementioned factors, we demand the resignation of Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan and Cabinet and call on uniting around the idea of statehood.

At this fatal and crucial moment, all layers and capable forces of society and the public and private sectors must combine their efforts to reestablish unity for the sake of the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Artsakh.”
