YEREVAN, MARCH 7, ARMENPRESS. The coach of Armenia’s gymnastics team has been deported from Qatar shortly after arriving there for the world cup series, sports officials revealed Tuesday.

“As soon as we arrived in Doha to participate in the world cup series, coach Hayk Nazaryan was deported for five years during passport control,” the head coach of the Armenian team Hakob Serobyan said at a press conference. “We don’t know why. He stayed in the airport for hours before being sent back to Armenia.”

Serobyan said that Nazaryan visited the country before without any problems.

YEREVAN, MARCH 7, ARMENPRESS. FC Lokomotiv Moscow defender Nair Tiknizyan will play for Armenian national team, the Football Federation of Armenia announced Tuesday.

Before joining FC Lokomotiv, the 23-year-old footballer played in CSKA Moscow and FC Avangard Kursk.

“I am grateful to the Football Federation of Armenia for this chance. I will try to prove that I can help Armenian national team. It was my initiative to make this decision,” said Tiknizyan.

YEREVAN, MARCH 7, ARMENPRESS. Secretary of the Security Council of Armenia Armen Grigoryan on March 7 held a meeting with the United States Senior Advisor for Caucasus Negotiations, United States Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Louis Bono.

Grigoryan and Bono discussed the latest developments in the settlement process of the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, Grigoryan’s office said in a read-out.

The illegal blockade of Lachin Corridor by Azerbaijan and its consequences were discussed, and in this context Secretary Grigoryan attached importance to the necessity for sending an international fact-finding team to Lachin Corridor and Nagorno Karabakh.

YEREVAN, MARCH 7, ARMENPRESS. On 3 March 2023, an event dedicated to the 1st anniversary of AraratBank joining the United Nations Global Compact international initiative was held in the banquet hall of the “Zargatsum” branch of AraratBank.

Chairman of the Board, AraratBank, Mr. Grigor Hovhannissian, and UN Resident Coordinator a.i. in the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Nils Scott, made opening remarks. The event was attended by the representatives of the UN and the public sector, international financial institutions’ Yerevan branch and foreign offices, local and international organizations that are members of the UN Women Empowerment Program.

By joining the UN Global Compact international initiative in 2022, AraratBank has expressed its willingness to incorporate the UN sustainable development principles into its business practices and act in accordance therewith.

The Ten Principles of the United Nations Global Compact are derived from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the International Labour Organization’s Declaration on Fundamental Principles and Rights at Work, the Rio Declaration on Environment and Development, and the United Nations Convention Against Corruption.

“We are committed to making the UN Global Compact and its principles part of the strategy, culture, and day-to-day operations of our company and to being involved in collaborative projects which advance the broader development goals of the United Nations, particularly the Sustainable Development Goals,” stated the Chairman of the Board, AraratBank, Mr. Grigor Hovhannissian.

YERERVAN, MARCH 7, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan received today the vice-president of the American Microchip Technology Bruce Weyer and his delegation, ARMENPRESS was infomred from the Offic eof the Prime Minister. 

The Prime Minister welcomed the entry to Armenia of Microchip Technology, which produces microelectronics, and its cooperation with the Armenian Instigate Semiconductor company, within the framework of which Microchip Technology will open a branch in Armenia. Nikol Pashinyan noted that the development of the IT sphere is one of the priorities of the Armenian Government, and a continuous growth in this strategic sphere is registered. "We attach importance to the involvement of reputable IT companies and are ready to support the investment process, which will promote the growth of innovation in our economy," said the Prime Minister, referring to the activities of the “Enterprise Armenia” investment promotion center, emphasizing that the center carried out targetted activities with the investors.

Thanking the Armenian Prime Minister, Bruce Weyer noted that Microchip Technology is interested in implementing programs in the Armenian technological market and plans to carry out activities in the spheres of software, microchip production, to promote the development of the Armenian technology ecosystem. It was noted that Instigate Semiconductor has offices in Yerevan, Gyumri, Vanadzor, Ijevan and plans to expand its activities.

At the meeting, the sides exchanged views on cooperation in high and information technologies.

The Prime Minister touched upon the agenda of the government's economic reforms, presented the technological programs and noted that the establishment of the Ministry of High-tech industry shows the prioroty of the sphere for the Government. In his turn, Bruce Weyer noted that Microchip Technology is interested in long-term cooperation and considers the partnership in space research as a promising direction.

YEREVAN, MARCH 7, ARMENPRESS. Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov stated that the meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Russia, Syria, Turkey and Iran is being prepared, ARMENPRESS reports, citing the Iranian IRNA agency.

"We work in that direction. The quadrilateral meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Russia, Iran, Turkey and Syria is currently being prepared. I can say that we have agreed not to disclose details so far, not everything is so easy,"Mikhail Bogdanov said.

It should be reminded that in December, the first talks between the Turkish and Syrian Defense Ministers took place in Russia since 11 years ago. In 2011, a civil war in Syria began. Turkey, which before this conflict, maintained close relations with Damascus, positioned itself against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad. Since then, Turkey's relations with Syria are not so smooth. However, in recent weeks both sides, as well as some media outlets, began to talk about the possibility of normalization of relations.

YEREVAN, MARCH 7, ARMENPRESS. Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan received the Senior Advisօr for the Caucasus negotiations, US Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group Louis Bono, ARMENPRESS was informed from the Office of the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister drew attention of the American Co-chair to the sabotage attack carried out by Azerbaijani armed forces in Nagorno Karabakh on March 5. Nikol Pashinyan added that Azerbaijan announces about the readiness for dialogue with the NK representatives on the one hand, and on the other hand, carries out terrorist acts, as a result of which three police officers of the Passport and Visa Department of the Police of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Nagorno Karabakh were killed three days ago.

The interlocutors touched upon the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh resulted by the blockade of the Lachin corridor. Prime Minister Pashinyan stressed the need for Azerbaijan to immediately fulfill the ruling of the International Court of Justice on unblocking the corridor.

Issues related to the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan and the Nagorno Karabakh issue were also discussed.

YEREVAN, MARCH 7, ARMENPRESS. On March 7, Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Vahe Gevorgyan received Louis Bono, the Senior Adviser for Caucasus Negotiations, the U.S. Co-Chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, ARMENPRESS was informed from the MFA Armenia.

The interlocutors exchanged views on regional security issues. The recent developments of the normalisation process of Armenia-Azerbaijan relations were discussed.

During the meeting, the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno-Karabakh resulting from Azerbaijan's illegal blockade of the Lachin corridor was touched upon. The Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia emphasized that Azerbaijan is maliciously disregarding the decision of the International Court of Justice regarding the request for provisional measures on the unblocking of the Lachin corridor.

YEREVAN, MARCH 7, ARMENPRESS. On March 7, the Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan met with the Secretary General of the Arab League Ahmed Aboul Gheit on March 7.

As ARMENPRESS was informed from the MFA Armenia, the interlocutors stressed that the relations between the Armenian and Arab peoples are based on centuries-old friendship and mutual respect, noting the role of Armenian communities in Arab countries.

Both sides noted with satisfaction that the Armenian presence in the countries of the Arab world is the best example of the coexistence of Christian and Muslim peoples. In this regard, Minister Mirzoyan considered unacceptable the attempts of Azerbaijan to artificially manipulate the religious factor, to disrupt the traditional grounds of Armenia's cooperation with the Arab world.

Periodic interaction and political dialogue with the Arab League and its member states were highlighted.

During the meeting, a number of issues related to regional and international security and stability were touched upon.

The Armenian FM presented to his interlocutor the regional situation resulted by Azerbaijan's aggressive actions in Nagorno Karabakh and Armenia, as well as details of the humanitarian crisis in Nagorno Karabakh as a result of the blocking of the Lachin corridor since December, 2022.
