the Azeri journalists and public figures to Karabakh, NKR Foreign
Minister Arman Melikian stated in his interview with H2 Armenian TV
Channel. Presently Azerbaijan’s attitude towards us is hostile and we
should be aware of the spirit of the Azeri society and contents of the
press subordinate to the leadership”, the Minister noted. “As a matter
of fact, the Azeri authorities try to conceal the truth about Nagorno
Karabakh from the society. We should bring it to the notion of the
Azeri people, since they have the right to know about the developments
in the NKR. We are ready to offer this opportunity to Azeri journalists
and public figures”, Arman Melikian said. In his words, these visits
will help to understand that each citizen of Karabakh perceives NKR as
an independent state and it is the only condition for the establishment
of normal relations with Azerbaijan. “The state, the people and the
authorities, who shut their eyes to the truth and are not willing
to give an objective estimate to the reality are doomed to failure”,

Matthieu Guinard (Lycos France) : “Il n’y a pas de dumping social”

Après la nouvelle de la delocalisation de Lycos France en Armenie,
son directeur general corrige certaines informations diffusees
depuis. Notamment sur les salaires, qui ne seront pas revus a la
baisse selon lui.

01net. : A quoi est dû le plan de restructuration du 23 mai dernier ?
Matthieu Guinard : Ce plan de restructuration est indispensable en
regard de la situation economique et financière de Lycos Europe. Nous
avons reduit nos pertes en 2004, mais nous ne sommes toujours pas
rentables. Un plan de reduction des coûts a ete decide fin 2004 et
devait etre effectif a la fin du premier trimestre 2005 en France. La
France a ete le dernier pays touche.
On centralise les produits entre l’Allemagne, au siège de Lycos
Europe a Guterslow, et l’Armenie a Erevan, un site rachete en 2000.
Le reclassement, en France, etant une jurisprudence obligatoire, il
sera propose aux salaries d’aller en Allemagne ou en Armenie. Ou dans
d’autres pays, au cas par cas. Mais tout le monde ne va pas aller en
Armenie–

Justement, il y a eu beaucoup de commentaires sur les conditions
salariales proposees en Armenie. Qu’avez-vous a en dire ?
Deja, je voudrais dire que le 23 mai, nous sommes entres dans un
cadre legal qui nous empechait de nous exprimer. Nous avions trois
jours francs avant de pouvoir communiquer avec les medias et nos
partenaires. Beaucoup de choses ont donc pu etre dites pendant ce
laps de temps. Mais non, il n’y a pas de dumping social, pas de
grille salariale entre 300 et 500 euros pour ceux qui souhaitent
partir en Armenie.

Ils garderont le meme salaire ?
Les gens qui partiront auront le salaire qu’ils ont actuellement,
plus les primes de deplacement, plus l’accompagnement reglemente. Les
salaries ne sont pas obliges d’accepter. Si une personne ne souhaite
pas de reclassement, elle se verra proposer un licenciement dans les
conditions negociees avec le comite d’entreprise. Avec outplacement,
formation–

Combien de postes sont concernes par le plan de restructuration ?
Soixante-quinze, dont soixante-deux pourvus actuellement [sur un
total de cent neuf employes, NDLR]. La difference entre les deux
chiffres, ce sont des postes qui ne seront pas reconduits. Sur les
soixante-deux postes, nous sommes en pleine negociation pour savoir
qui sera transfere.

Quels sont les types de postes concernes ?
En France, on a deux unites europeennes, le mail et l’hebergement.
Des chefs de produits, des developpeurs sont touches. A Lycos France,
il restera le design du portail, le marketing et le webdeveloppement.

Quel est le calendrier ?
Nous devons arriver a un accord a la fin juillet normalement. Le plan
de sauvegarde de l’emploi entrera en application et se deroulera
jusqu’a la fin 2005.

Qu’est-ce que tout cela va changer dans les activites de Lycos ?
Les produits seront toujours disponibles. Le mail, l’hebergement, les
noms de domaine– ca ne changera rien. Nous esperons atteindre
l’equilibre au premier trimestre 2006. Et devenir profitable sur
l’ensemble de l’exercice 2006.

Armenier: Beck stellt sich hinter Piening

Im Streit um die Broschüre “Armenier in Berlin” hat sich die
Migrationsbeauftragte der Bundesregierung, Marieluise Beck, hinter
den Ausländerbeauftragten Günter Piening gestellt. Sie wünsche sich
einen reflektierteren Umgang mit der schwierigen Geschichte des
osmanischen Reiches, sagte sie. In der Broschüre wird die Vertreibung
und Vernichtung von Armeniern durch die Türken während des Ersten
Weltkriegs als Völkermord bezeichnet, was bei türkischen Verbänden

Türkische Parlamentarier in der Schweiz

Bern, 14. Juni. (sda) Laut dem türkischen Parlamentarier Mehmet
Dülger findet die Reise von Bundesrat Joseph Deiss im September in
die Türkei “sicher” statt. Dies sagte Dülger am Dienstag in Bern als
Leiter der türkischen Delegation, die seit Montag in der Schweiz
weilt.

Die Beziehungen der Schweiz zur Türkei hatten sich in letzter Zeit
wegen der Armenierfrage verschlechtert. Die türkische Presse hatte am
vergangenen Freitag berichtet, dass ein für September geplanter
Besuch von Deiss in der Türkei auf türkischer Seite abgesagt worden
sei. Zuvor hatte der türkische Handelsminister Kürsad Tüzmen einen
Besuch in der Schweiz Ende Juni gestrichen – aus Verärgerung über die
strafrechtliche Verfolgung eines Historikers in der Schweiz, der den
Armeniergenozid angeblich verharmloste. Dülger betonte nun aber an
einer Pressekonferenz, der Besuch des Schweizer
Volkswirtschaftsministers in der Türkei sei “sehr wichtig” und werde
wie geplant stattfinden.

Dülger führt die Delegation des türkischen aussenpolitischen
Ausschusses der Grossen Nationalversammlung an. Die fünfköpfige
Delegation traf sich am Dienstag mit Bundesrätin Micheline Calmy-Rey
und Bundesrat Joseph Deiss sowie mit den beiden Ratspräsidenten.
Gespräche führte die Delegation auch mit Mitgliedern ihrer Schweizer
Schwesterkommission, der Aussenpolitischen Kommission des Ständerats
(APK-S), angeführt von Kommissionspräsident Peter Briner. Dabei wurde
insbesondere die Armenierfrage thematisiert. Dülger sagte, das
Problem müsse “mit grosser Sensibilität” angegangen werden. Es sei
schwierig, “die eigenen Grossväter plötzlich als Kriminelle
betrachten zu müssen”, sagte er.

Man habe ihm in den Gesprächen zugesichert, die Haltung der Türkei in
der Armenierfrage nicht zur Vorbedingung für eine weitere Annäherung
zwischen der Schweiz und der Türkei zu machen, sagte Dülger. Er
zeigte sich auch über den Ablauf des Verfahrens gegen den türkischen
Historiker beruhigt. Von offizieller Schweizer Seite hiess es, die
Diskussionen hätten in einem “aufgeschlossenen Klima” stattgefunden
und Gelegenheit geboten, “auch schwierige Themen offen anzusprechen”.
Durch parlamentarische Kontakte könnten Missverständnisse ausgeräumt
werden, hiess es in einem Communiqué der Parlamentsdienste.

Die Visite der Parlamentarierdelegation erfolgt als Gegenbesuch zum
Besuch einer Delegation der APK-S 2004 in die Türkei. Die Delegation
weilt noch bis am Freitag in der Schweiz.

“Schnapp dir deine Fahne und mach mit” Türkische Organisationen
protestieren gegen Bundestag

Die Hürriyet ist unter den rund 200 000 türkischen Berlinern die wohl
meistgelesene Zeitung. Unter dem Motto “Schnapp dir deine Fahne und
mach mit” wird dort aufgerufen, am nächsten Sonnabend ab 12 Uhr auf
dem Kurfürstendamm “nur mit türkischen Fahnen” zu protestieren. Es
geht wieder einmal um den Armenienkonflikt zwischen 1915 und 1918.
Celal Altun, Geschäftsführer der Türkischen Gemeinde, erwartet,
dass am Wochenende bis zu 50 000 Demonstranten aus ganz Deutschland,
“gegen einseitige Propaganda und historische Ungerechtigkeit” auf
die Straße ziehen werden.

Anlass für den neuen Unmut einer von der Gemeinde angeführten
“Initiative türkischer Organisationen” ist, dass alle Parteien des
Bundestages noch im Juni gemeinsam den Völkermord an den Armeniern
zwischen 1915 und 1918 verurteilen wollen. “Wir werden uns den
machtpolitischen Interessen von heute nicht beugen”, heißt es dazu
im Aufruf. Aber auch Berlins Migrationsbeauftragter Günter Piening
steht unter Beschuss. Die Broschüre “Armenier in Berlin” (siehe Foto),
die den Völkermord eindeutig thematisiert, war auf der Titelseite der
Hürriyet” großflächig “als die große Schande von Berlin” bezeichnet
worden. Umgehend soll sich die türkische Botschaft ein Exemplar
des am Montag veröffentlichten Heftes bestellt haben. Die Türkische
Gemeinde hatte – nur vor der türkischen Presse – Piening vorgeworfen,
in der Publikation “die Stimme der armenischen Diaspora” wiederzugeben.

“Die Auseinandersetzung mit der geschichtlichen Wahrheit ist nie
eine Schande, sondern gereicht allen Beteiligten zur Ehre”, sagte
Piening der Berliner Zeitung. Es könne sich niemand leisten, eine
Grauzone der Geschichte zu behalten. Die ausgesprochen scharfen Töne
zum Protestaufzug hielt Piening nicht für die Mehrheitsmeinung der
in Berlin lebenden Türken. Im Frühherbst will Piening im Rahmen von
Projekttagen an Schulen Diskussionen über den Armenienkonflikt
anbieten. Der Migrationsbeauftragte begrüßte, dass das Land
Brandenburg bereits als erstes Bundesland ähnliche Wege gegangen sei.
Geplant seien nach dem Sommer außerdem deutsch-türkisch-armenische
Dialogveranstaltungen. Der Vorstand des liberalen Türkischen Bundes
kündigte an, sich am Mittwoch mit den wieder entflammten Debatten
auseinander zu setzen.

Lebanese Armenians protest against Erdogan visit

BEIRUT June 15 — Several hundred Lebanese Armenians took part in a
demonstration Wednesday at which a Turkish flag was burnt in protest
at a visit by Turkey’s Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan.

The demonstrators in Bourj Hammoud, an Armenian suburb of Beirut,
shouted slogans against the Ottoman massacre of the Armenians.

Some carried cartoon posters of Erdogan depicting him as Pinocchio.

Lebanon is home to the largest Armenian community in the Arab world,
made up of descendants of survivors of the 1915-1917 massacres in
Turkey. The community is estimated to number 120,000, half of what
it was before the 1975-1990 civil war.

Several countries have recognized the massacres as genocide — a term
Turkey fiercely rejects — and Brussels has urged Ankara to face its
past and expand freedom of speech.

But the Ankara government last month squelched a landmark conference
questioning the official line on the mass killings that was to have
been held at Istanbul’s prestigious Bogazici University.

Erdogan was expected in Beirut later Wednesday for talks with Lebanese
officials and to take part in the Arab Economic Forum.

Turkish prime minister arrives in Lebanon as Armenians protest, burn Turkish flag

BEIRUT, Lebanon — Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan flew
into Lebanon on Wednesday for talks on expanding relations, but the
country’s Armenians protested his visit, burning the Turkish flag and
calling for Lebanon to recognize the World War 1 killing of Turkish
Armenians as genocide.

Erdogan and members of his Cabinet were received at Beirut airport
by Prime Minister Najib Mikati. The two prime ministers talked alone,
but no details were released.

Shortly before his arrival, some 1,500 Armenians demonstrated in the
northern Beirut district of Bourj Hammoud against Turkey’s refusal
to recognize what Armenia and several other countries regard as an
act of genocide.

Armenians say Turks killed up to 1.5 million Armenians in eastern
Turkey between 1915 and 1923. Turks claim the number is inflated and
that the victims were killed in civil unrest or during deportation
to Syria.

The Lebanese protesters burned a Turkish flag and closed their shops
for an hour in Bourj Hammoud, which has a large Armenian community.
Some 100,000 Armenians live in Lebanon.

A newly elected Armenian member of parliament, Hagob Pakradounian,
said Lebanon must follow 18 other countries in officially recognizing
the killings as genocide. Speaking to reporters, he demanded that
Turkey recognize the massacre.

Erdogan and his wife, wearing a purple headscarf, visited the
residence of the slain former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri to pay their
condolences to his widow, Nazek. Later, the three visited Hariri’s
grave on Martyrs’ Square in central Beirut. Hariri was killed with
20 other people in a massive bombing in Beirut on Feb. 14.

During his two-day visit, Erdogan is scheduled to attend the Arab
Economic Forum for Investment and Arab Capital Markets, which opens
in Beirut on Thursday, the official National News Agency reported.

Erdogan is also due to meet President Emile Lahoud and parliamentary
Speaker Nabih Berri on Thursday.

Iran, Armenia keen to expand educational, research cooperation

Moscow, June 15, IRNA Iran-Armenia-Haji Iran’s Minister of Education
Morteza Haji in a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Andranik
Markarian in Yerevan on Wednesday expressed satisfaction with
multi-faceted expansion of mutual ties and stressed the need to
bolster cooperation in the field of education and research.

Currently on a three-day visit to the Armenian capital of Yerevan,
Haji referred to the significance of closer communication between
pupils and students as well as scientific, educational and research
centers of both countries.

Turning to the Iranology Center in Armenia, the minister reiterated
the need to broaden its activities.

For his part, Markarian regretted the recent terrorist acts in Iran
and expressed grief over the death of a number of Iranian citizens
in several blasts.

He underlined that the background of amicable relations between the
two nations, close cooperation of the two governments since Armenia
gained independence and the growing trend of mutual ties paved the
way for consolidating relations.

Markarian pointed to the significance of Iran-Armenia collaboration
in the domain of science and education, and called for expansion of
such exchanges and closer communication between various institutes
active in the field.

“Given the growing economic cooperation between the two states, the
positive outcome of implementing major projects will be evident at
the regional level,” he added.

In another meeting with the Head of Armenia’s Presidential Office
Artash Tumanyan and the Armenian head of joint economic commission,
Haji placed special focus on closer interactions between the two
nations.

He stressed the role of the Iran-Armenia Economic Commission in
mutual relations.

Tumanyan referred to the importance of Haji’s visit to his country
and assessed the growing trend of bilateral ties as positive.

He urged the need to expand collaboration in the domain of science
and research with the framework of the joint economic commission.

The official pointed out that Iran’s significant regional status is
of great importance in Armenia’s foreign relations.

“Given that a considerable number of Iranian students are currently
studying in Armenian universities, special attention should be paid
to broadening cooperation in the field,” concluded Tumanyan.

Bordyuzha, Armenian leaders discuss agenda of CSTO session

Collective Security Treaty Organisation (CSTO), met Armenian leaders
on Wednesday to discuss the agenda of the CSTO session to be held in
Moscow on June 22-23.

The meeting with Armenian President Robert Kocharyan focused on the
CSTO efforts to counteract terrorism and illicit drug trafficking,
as well as on prospects for the development of military-technical
cooperation, the Armenian president’s press service told Itar-Tass.

The talks with Serzh Sarkisyan, Armenia’s defence minister and the
Security Council secretary, touched on the agenda of the upcoming
CSTO session.

UNSEEN FELLINI TO BE SHOWN AT PROCIDA

(ANSA) – Naples, June 14 – Unseen footage from Federico
Fellini’s last film will be shown at the Procida
International Film Festival this weekend.

Two hours of material from La Voce Della Luna (1990) has
been boiled down into a half-hour film called Fellini Rush.

Festival organiser and film buff Enrico Ghezzi, who
found the footage in the archives of state TV RAI, said
“There are silent scenes, photos and rehearsals with dummies
– a bit like the first rough work on a marble statue.”

The short will be the culmination of the festival’s
inaugural day, Thursday.

The opening day will have two other highlights: the
Italian premiere of Jean-Luc Godard’s history of
movie-making, Moments Choisis des Histoires du Cinema; and a
restored, complete version of Fritz Lang’s 1929 classic Woman
in the Moon.

A much-awaited independent feature by French-Armenian
director Yervant Gianikian and Italy’s Angela Ricci Lucchi,
Electrical Fragments Nos 4/5, Asia-Africa, will close the
festival on Sunday.

The leitmotiv of this third Procida fest is The Cinema
Era.

Historians and film folk will discuss generations of
technology and film-makers, with a special look at cinema
dynasties.
